Our Actuaries are on the front lines, quantifying risk, pricing insurance and reserving losses for AIG’s major insurance operating companies, globally. We collaborate with Finance, Claims, Operations, Marketing and Risk Management, among other functions. As an AIG actuary, you will be challenged and encouraged to reach your greatest potential to help improve how we predict, manage and mitigate risk.

How you will create an impact

You will support the AIG APAC insurance business, and work as a member of the APAC actuarial team to achieve goals and deliver on strategic initiatives. You will work with analysts and experienced actuaries as part the regional team to provide actuarial advice to the business functions including profit centers, underwriting, finance, and risk management.

This position will also provide opportunities to assist in reserving predictive modeling, develop accurate analysis techniques, suggest innovative product designs, and coordinate with others within or outside the department on various projects.

Key responsibilities include:

  • You will be responsible for portfolio optimization, assessment of pricing adequacy and company strategies, for the purpose of ensuring company financial strength, regulatory compliance, and meeting profit objectives.
  • Provide the Singapore business and wider APAC with the actuarial support required to achieve profitable growth and business goals
  • Work cross functionally to collect, compile, and analyze all relevant data / information including product’s competitive analysis, customer analysis, and / or market trends.
  • Produce pricing analysis for large accounts and schemes within agreed timescales, working closely with underwriters
  • Support the development, alignment, and execution of portfolio strategies
  • Prepare and deliver robust analytics to inform and guide decisions relating to new product developments or revisions in a timely manner
  • Provide support in the development of products, pricing and rating plans, and risk segmentation strategies
  • Provide support to budget loss ratio estimates and financial planning
  • Provide assistance to the Appointed Actuary
  • Collaborate with local and regional product teams, Finance, Marketing, Underwriting, Claims and IT
  • Assist with validation and documentation of pricing models according to global standards
  • Ensure execution of rate level indication exercise

What you’ll need to succeed

You should have some prior experience in commercial lines pricing , in particular Financial Lines. Be a team-player with the ability to build collaborative relationships. Additional requirements include:

  • Candidate with Mathematic/Actuarial or any related degree background, with some progress towards pursuing a professional actuarial qualification
  • Some working experience in the general insurance industry
  • Relevant experience in the portfolio management/analytics/underwriting field is preferred
  • Strong analytical, financial, research, and problem-solving skills
  • Relevant experience with consolidating data and developing reporting metrics
  • Skills with Excel, VBA, PowerBI, SQL, R, Python and PowerPoint software
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as take responsibility for his individual contribution
  • Effective time management and strong communication skills
