A leading company in marine construction is seeking an Accounts Assistant to manage financial tasks, including accounts payable and costing reports. The ideal candidate will have a diploma in Accounting or Finance and at least two years of relevant experience. Proficiency in accounting software and a strong ability to meet deadlines are essential for this role.
Job Description/ Key Responsibilities:
1. Accounts Payable & Receivable
• Process supplier invoices, verify against purchase orders and delivery notes.
• Prepare and process payments (cheques, GIRO, TT).
• Issue invoices to clients and follow up on receivables.
• Maintain aging reports and assist in collections.
2. Project Costing & Budget Tracking
• Assist in tracking and allocating project-related costs (labor, materials, equipment).
• Prepare cost variance reports for ongoing marine construction projects.
• Monitor budget utilization and flag overruns.
3. General Ledger Maintenance
• Record journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
• Reconcile bank, supplier, and customer accounts.
• Maintain supporting documentation and audit trails
4. Financial Reporting
• Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes.
• Support the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
• Liaise with auditors and tax agents.
5. Compliance & Documentation
• Ensure compliance with local accounting standards, tax regulations, and marine construction financial policies.
• Prepare GST/VAT returns, withholding tax reports, and other regulatory filings.
6. Administrative Support
• Manage insurance documentation, bond guarantees, and subcontractor payments.
• Coordinate with project managers for billing milestones and claims
Qualifications & Skills:
Education:
• Diploma or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent.
Experience:
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience, preferably in construction, engineering, or maritime industries.
• Familiarity with project accounting is a plus.
Skills:
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g, Xero)
• Good knowledge of MS Excel and reporting tools.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
Preferred Attributes:
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Team player with good communication skills.
• Understanding of marine or offshore project lifecycles is a bonus.
