Job description

Working closely with ABS business development and learning teams, the ABS Academy Manager is responsible for the sales and delivery of excellent client training programs and services. Profitably manages the ABS Academy’s resources and budget.

This position will oversee the ABS Singapore Maritime Safety Center. This flagship safety and innovation center offers immersive and simulation classroom course offerings in the areas of maritime safety and alternative fuels.

What You Will Do:

  • Facilitate classes at the Maritime Safety Center, either in the role of instructor or through coordination with external facilitators.
  • Leads or supports proposal development, sales, and execution for the delivery of client training and training approval/certification programs, working with the broad network of ABS sales and business development teams.
  • Develop client relationships through consistent delivery of training programs in a creative, impactful, and top-quality manner – across multiple clients and multiple business units
  • Promote the Maritime Safety Center at local or regional maritime events. Seeks opportunities to broaden awareness and generate interest in the center. Manage all events held in the center, ensuring service excellence.
  • Act as local market intelligence for maritime training needs in the region.
  • Responsible for various financial aspects of the appointed ABS Academy including invoicing and inter-departmental billing, budget resource plan, and monthly operating report forecast (MORF).
  • Procure and oversee the performance of suppliers, per ABS supplier requirements. Responsible for initiating and the maintenance of vendor contracts.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert as necessary in the development and facilitation of client training programs.
  • Keep Lead, Learner Experience informed of performance and activities for local Producers.
  • Remain abreast of industry trends and the competitive landscape to ensure ABS client programs are ahead of the curve
  • Ensures recommendations are made to keep the ABS Academy organized, properly staffed and operating efficiently.
  • Oversees the instructor coordination, reproduction of learning material, handling, storage, packaging, and delivery of learning materials for each curriculum delivery.
  • Maintains training materials in accordance with applicable quality procedures.
  • Reports periodically the statistics regarding training delivery.
  • Seeks continual improvement to the ongoing training operations.
  • Evaluates feedback with ABS personnel and clients, assuring satisfaction with the learning content and resolving problems as they arise.
  • Ensures that ABS Quality System requirements are fulfilled. Participates in internal and external audits. Maintains quality records and procedures for the ABS Academy in accordance with the ABS Quality System and keeps familiar with Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental Management System updates.

What You Will Need:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or recognized equivalent in Engineering or other technical disciplines.
  • A minimum of 6 to 8 years of experience employed by a ship owner/operator, marine classification society. 5+ years of experience sailing or surveying/auditing gas carrier vessels.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge in gas carriers, LNG as a marine fuel and associated regulations, Rules and codes. Knowledge in other alternative fuels and the latest emerging technologies is a desired.
  • Advanced knowledge and skills in the use of MS Office applications. Ability to learn additional programs as required.
  • Comfortable with the use of technology in classroom instruction (AR/VR/Gaming/Simulation).
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to organize direct and motivate personnel at various levels. Must be able to assume a high level of individual responsibility.
  • Working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental Management System.
