Position Summary

Private voice/piano/guitar/drum, etc., instructor for a music academy geared toward students of all ages in Orange County. The music instructor will work with the music school director to schedule teaching days and engage with children and adults.

Pay Range and Hours

This is a part-time position, 3-15 hours per week depending on enrollment and schedule. Compensation is $30-$36 per hour, DOE.

Essential Functions
  • Planning and preparing lessons based on students' needs and abilities.
  • Acquiring teaching materials and resources.
  • Teaching music theory, listening skills, and practical musicianship.
  • Preparing students for practice, recitals, and performances.
  • Motivating students and encouraging progress in a positive environment.
  • Attending staff meetings.
  • Communicating with parents and music school leads.
  • Planning and/or arranging recitals and concerts for students' families and friends.
  • Being responsible for musical instruments and the teaching space.
Working Conditions

Ability to sit for long periods with breaks, and to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist as needed. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects, reach overhead, operate a computer and telephone, and lift up to 25 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: AA or BA degree in Music preferred; equivalent knowledge and experience considered.
  • Experience: Three years of teaching preferred.
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of music performance and teaching; ability to communicate techniques positively.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.
