Coalesce Management Consulting is seeking a Verification and Validation Engineer to join a safety-critical programme focused on HIL-based verification of embedded systems. You will develop and execute test strategies to ensure functionality, performance and reliability against defined requirements.

You will design, build and maintain HIL test rigs, write test specifications and Python scripts, and perform white-box and black-box testing within regulated environments.

Qualifications

We are seeking a Verification and Validation Engineer to join a safety-critical engineering programme focused on the verification and validation of embedded systems. This role will play a key part in developing and executing test strategies within Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) environments, ensuring product functionality, performance and reliability against defined requirements.

The successful candidate will have strong experience with HIL testing and test rig development, alongside a solid understanding of embedded software verification within regulated or safety-critical industries. This is an initial 6-9 month consulting role, with the possibility of an extension.

Responsibilities of the Verification and Validation Engineer

• Develop, build and maintain Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test rigs.
• Design and execute test activities based on system and product requirements.
• Create detailed test specifications, test cases and test procedures.
• Perform both white-box and black-box testing of embedded software.
• Develop Python-based test scripts and automation solutions.
• Verify and validate embedded C software running within simulated environments.
• Analyse test results, investigate failures and provide clear defect reports.
• Support requirements traceability throughout the verification lifecycle.
• Work closely with systems, software and integration engineers to ensure complete test coverage.

Essential Skills of the Verification and Validation Engineer

• Proven experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing.
• Experience building, configuring or developing HIL test rigs.
• Strong background in verification and validation (V&V).
• Experience producing test requirements and designing test cases.
• Python programming experience for test development and automation.
• Understanding of embedded software testing.
• Experience working within safety-critical environments.
• Aerospace, avionics, automotive or defence experience.

Candidates are likely to come from backgrounds such as HIL Test Engineering, Verification Engineering, Validation Engineering, V&V (Verification & Validation), Embedded Testing, Systems Testing, Avionics Testing, Integration Testing or Safety-Critical Testing. We are particularly interested in engineers with experience verifying embedded systems within HIL environments, developing test rigs, deriving test cases from requirements and working on complex safety-critical products in industries such as aerospace, defence, automotive, rail or industrial automation.
