Thesis worker 30 hp – Optimizing thermal curing processes of adhesives

Introduction: Thesis work is an excellent way to get closer to Scania and build relationships for the future. Many of today's employees began their Scania career with their degree project.

Background: Automotive cabins are reinforced with thermally cured adhesives. Optimizing the curing process could potentially lower carbon emissions by shortening cycle-times in and/or lowering the temperature of the curing oven.

Objective: Scania are assessing and further developing current laboratory methods for modelling the curing process as well as investigating the effects of incomplete curing on material properties of adhesives.

Job description:

  • Literature study on curing mechanisms and mechanical properties of adhesives
  • Planning and performing material testing
  • Method development of DSC and DMA measurements
  • Characterization of material properties
  • Evaluation of curing models
