Job summary

Swedish Match Sales Sweden Aktiebolag in Gothenburg is seeking a Sustainability Engineer to strengthen our environment, health and safety practices at factory level. You will help build a safer, more sustainable workplace by supporting systems, programs and behaviors that protect people and enable long-term business performance.

You will develop and deploy EHS systems, coach managers, identify workplace risks, and report sustainability performance to stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Relevant education in the environment, working environment, safety, chemistry, engineering or similar.
  • 2–3 years of experience in environment, occupational health and safety within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Professional proficiency in both Swedish and English is required.
  • Good knowledge of environment, occupational health and safety legal requirements and practical risk assessment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and investigation skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working with audits, inspections, incident investigations, or corrective actions.
  • Ability to coach, influence and support stakeholders at different levels.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy environment, occupational health and safety systems, programs and procedures.
  • Advise and coach managers and supervisors on sustainability practices and safe behaviors.
  • Identify workplace risks and support actions to eliminate or reduce hazards.
  • Plan and execute inspections, audits, risk assessments and emergency preparedness activities.

As a Sustainability Engineer, you will join our Manufacturing team and play an important role in strengthening our environment, health and safety practices at factory level. You will help build a safer, more sustainable workplace by supporting systems, programs, and behaviors that protect people, reduce risks, and enable long-term business performance.

Impact You’ll Own
  • Drive a strong safety and sustainability culture that supports our ambition of zero incidents.
  • Improve environmental, health, and safety performance by identifying risks, strengthening compliance, and implementing continuous improvements.
  • Enable informed decision-making through effective deployment of sustainability systems, employee training, and reliable performance reporting.

Skills & Capabilities
Must-haves
  • Relevant education in the environment, working environment, safety, chemistry, engineering or similar
  • 2-3 years of experience in environment, occupational health and safety within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Professional proficiency in both Swedish and English is a requirement for this position.

Application Process

The recruitment process consists of phone screening, online assessments, and at least two interview stages. Interviews with candidates are planned to take place from the end of August and early September.
