Our values – customer first, respect, team spirit, responsibility, and elimination of waste – are at the heart of everything we do.

Role Summary

This role is a part of TRATON Group R&D, located in Södertälje, Sweden

We are looking for a new team member to join our Cab Durability and Crash simulation unit at TRATON in Sweden. As the transport industry undergoes a major transformation - driven by sustainability, electrification, and autonomy - our group plays a key role in shaping the vehicles of tomorrow.

Our responsibilities span FE strength and fatigue analyses of vehicle cabs, complete-vehicle crash simulations, and the passive safety properties of our vehicles. We also play a key role in vehicle homologation, including compliance with regulations such as UN ECE R29. Together with us, you have a unique opportunity to take an important part in developing TRATON’s future products as well as optimizing the existing ones.

Job Responsibilities

As a CAE Engineer, you will be part of a skilled team working at the intersection of simulation, testing, design, and certification. You will have the opportunity to influence product development from early engineering decisions through validation and homologation.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Drive crash safety through simulation. Apply your knowledge of solid mechanics and FE analysis to evaluate structural performance, identify potential improvements, and support designers in developing components and systems that deliver excellent passive safety.
  • Challenge and improve our methods. Contribute to the continuous development of simulation methodologies, improving predictive capability, efficiency, and turnaround times.
  • Shape our simulation strategies. Develop load cases, establish product acceptance criteria, and coordinate simulation activities across our global organization.
  • Connect virtual and physical testing. Work closely with crash test engineers to correlate simulation results with physical tests, understand discrepancies, and develop relevant test methods.
  • Contribute to vehicle safety and compliance. Support the development and verification of passive safety performance in line with applicable crash safety and homologation requirements.
  • Collaborate across disciplines. Work closely with designers, testing specialists, certification teams, and international colleagues to turn engineering insights into practical design solutions.
Who You Are

You are a curious and analytical engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems and translating simulation results into meaningful engineering decisions. You are motivated by the challenge of improving vehicle safety and thrive in an environment where collaboration and technical expertise go hand in hand.

You have:

  • An MSc or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least two years of experience in passive safety, crash simulation, crash testing, or a related area.
  • A solid understanding of solid mechanics and finite element analysis, together with the ability to interpret results and translate them into actionable design recommendations.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, enabling you to work effectively with designers, technical services, testing teams, and colleagues across different locations.
  • A proactive mindset and an interest in continuously improving simulation methods, engineering processes, and product performance.

It is an advantage if you also have:

  • Experience with homologation, certification, or regulatory requirements in the automotive or commercial vehicle industry, particularly crash safety.
  • Practical experience with LS-DYNA and ANSA/Meta.
  • Familiarity with working in a Linux environment.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds – your unique experience and perspectives is valuable to us.
