Job summary

Newcode.ai is a fast-growing legal tech and agentic AI company transforming how legal work is done. We seek a Senior Backend Engineer to own the end-to-end retrieval pipeline, from document parsing to model integration, ensuring accurate citations and robust performance.

You will design search combining semantic and keyword techniques and build agentic retrieval with multi-step loops. You'll ship Python/FastAPI services at scale, manage background ingestion tasks, and uphold strict data

Qualifications

• Five years of production backend experience, with retrieval or RAG systems.
• Strong Python and FastAPI proficiency with production-grade services.
• Experience with vector databases and search tooling for scalable retrieval.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end retrieval pipeline: parsing, chunking, embeddings, indexing, and keep it current.
• Design hybrid semantic/keyword search using Qdrant and metadata filtering.
• Build agentic retrieval with query decomposition, multi-step loops, and cost controls.
• Develop evaluation layers with golden sets, metrics, and traceability for issues.
• Ship dependable Python/FastAPI services; run ingestion/reindexing as background jobs.
• Ensure data security and tenant isolation across clients.
