Job summary

Vattenfall is looking for a Senior Operational Technology (OT) Architect to define and govern the OT architecture across their renewable energy portfolio. This role involves acting as a technical authority on SCADA and OT systems, ensuring high-quality solutions across projects. You'll guide engineering teams, drive competency development, and ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards.

Candidates should have extensive experience in OT architecture and SCADA systems, as well as excellent communication skills and a proven track record in standardization and governance.

Senior Operational Technology (OT) Architect – Technical Authority

We are seeking a Senior Operational Technology (OT) Architect – Technical Authority to define, govern, and evolve the OT architecture across our renewable energy portfolio. A Technical Authority is expected to:

• Own architecture and standards across the domain
• Act as an escalation point for complex system decisions
• Drive roadmap alignment and governance
• Ensure competence development and consistency across teams

This is not only a design role. You will act as a technical authority for SCADA and OT systems, setting standards, guiding engineering teams, and ensuring consistent, high‑quality solutions across projects and assets. You will play a central role in building and developing technical competencies within Operational Technology in BA Wind, ensuring that our solutions are robust, secure, and scalable while enabling operational excellence.

Your Responsibilities

• Define, maintain, and enforce the OT architecture strategy for SCADA and automation systems
• Establish and govern reference architectures, standards, and design principles across all assets
• Act as the technical escalation point for complex system and integration decisions
• Ensure alignment of architectures across projects, assets, and business units
• Guide, coach, and challenge engineering teams to improve technical solutions and design decisions
• Drive competence development within OT engineering teams (methods, tools, best practices)
• Translate complex technical topics into clear guidance for both engineers and stakeholders
• Lead the design and integration of Level 1 SCADA systems from major OEMs (Siemens, Vestas, GE, Nordex)
• Support project teams with solution design, trade‑offs, and technical decision‑making
• Drive standardization and interoperability across multi‑vendor SCADA platforms
• Provide technical leadership in vendor selection, system upgrades, and lifecycle management
• Own and maintain the OT technology and architecture roadmap
• Ensure cybersecurity‑by‑design and compliance with regulatory standards
• Support digitalisation initiatives, including OT/IT integration and data enablement
• Identify and drive adoption of emerging technologies and automation trends

Qualifications and Experience

• Extensive experience in OT architecture within renewable energy, with deep SCADA expertise
• Proven experience acting as a senior technical lead, architect, or authority across multiple systems or projects
• Hands‑on knowledge of Level 1 SCADA systems (Siemens, Vestas, GE, Nordex)
• Understanding of industrial communication protocols (IEC 61850, OPC UA, Modbus) and OT cybersecurity
• Ability to guide, influence, and challenge engineering teams without direct line authority
• Excellent communication skills to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable guidance
• Experience driving standardisation, governance, and cross‑team alignment
• Strong knowledge of architecture frameworks (ISA‑95, IEC 62443)
• Proven track record of designing scalable, secure, and resilient OT solutions
• Experience working across multiple projects, ensuring consistency and reuse

Nice to Have

• Experience integrating OT with cloud and data platforms
• Knowledge of asset management systems and digital twin approaches
• Experience working in a Technical Authority / domain lead setup
