Job summary

Hitachi Energy Ltd. is seeking a Senior Mechanical Plant Design Engineer in Sweden to lead mechanical plant design for HVDC projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across disciplines.

The role focuses on mechanical design within Plant Engineering, with opportunities to contribute to design, planning, risk assessments, and technical project execution. You will mentor and review junior engineers, coordinate with internal and external partners, and develop cost‑effective technical

Qualifications

  • Experience in mechanical plant design and preparation of documents aligned with customer needs and standards.
  • Knowledge of electrical power transformation systems is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Experience or interest in 3D modeling of equipment layouts and collaboration with internal/external partners.
  • Experience and/or knowledge in BIM coordination between external and internal partners.
  • Familiarity with cost estimates like bill of quantities and engineering hours.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools such as Siemens NX, Revit, Teamcenter; willingness to learn more.

  • Prepare work plans, cost estimates, and schedules; support scope and budget reviews.
  • Collaborate closely with project teams, tender teams, customers, contractors, authorities, and supply chain partners.
  • Independently manage technical activities with limited supervision and mentor junior engineers.

Job description

The opportunity

As a Senior Mechanical Plant Design Engineer within Plant mechanical, you will work in a collaborative engineering environment where problem‑solving, learning, and sound technical judgement are key. Within Plant Engineering, this role covers several disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, civil, and structural engineering, with a primary focus on mechanical design. Knowledge of other engineering areas is an advantage. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to HVDC station design through engineering design, planning, risk assessments, resource coordination, and technical project execution.

This role is based in Ludvika or Västerås, Sweden.

How You’ll Make An Impact
  • Lead mechanical plant design activities for complex HVDC projects, ensuring high-quality multidisciplinary engineering coordination.
  • Develop robust and cost-effective technical solutions in line with customer requirements, contracts, budgets, and schedules.
  • Drive engineering deliverables within your area of expertise and provide technical support during testing, installation, and commissioning.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, quality requirements, and risk mitigation practices throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare work plans, cost estimates, and engineering schedules, and support scope and budget reviews.
  • Collaborate closely with project teams, tender teams, customers, contractors, authorities, and supply chain partners.
  • Independently manage technical activities, solve complex engineering challenges, and support project execution with limited supervision.
  • Mentor and review the work of junior engineers while contributing to technical development and best practices within the team.

Ideally, You Bring
