Job summary

SSAB is seeking a Senior Manager Occupational Health to build and lead the occupational health strategy for the Luleå Mini Mill project. This role shapes health risk prevention, exposure monitoring, and health surveillance across contractors and stakeholders.

You will oversee on-site health services, drive governance, and develop preventive programs, contributing to a lasting standard for workforce health in a major industrial transformation.

Qualifications

• Degree in Occupational Health, Hygiene, Nursing, Public Health, Environmental Health, Safety, or related field.
• Significant leadership experience in industrial, construction, infrastructure, mining, energy, manufacturing, or similar environments.
• Experience building and managing occupational health programs, health surveillance systems, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong understanding of exposure monitoring, health risk assessment, and mitigation strategies.
• Knowledge of Swedish occupational health and work-environment legislation is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Occupational Health team, setting priorities, standards, and ways of working across the project.
• Establish and continuously improve occupational health programs, systems, governance, and reporting for a large-scale construction environment.
• Oversee health risk assessments, exposure monitoring, occupational hygiene, and chemical management to ensure effective prevention and compliance.
• Manage on-site occupational health services, health surveillance programs, medical response arrangements, and specialist providers.
• Support workforce wellbeing through health-related onboarding, awareness programs, early intervention, and return-to-work processes.
• Analyze health and exposure data, identify risks and trends, and provide recommendations to project leadership.
• Collaborate with project teams, contractors, external providers, and authorities to ensure compliance with legal and project requirements.

About The Job

Transformation Office, is looking for a Senior Manager Occupational Health to build and lead the occupational health approach for the Luleå Mini Mill project.

Few occupational health roles offer the opportunity to build a complete workplace health framework from the ground up within a major industrial transformation project. At the Luleå Mini Mill, you will shape how the long-term health of the people delivering the project is protected, creating the systems that identify occupational health risks early and turn insight into effective prevention.

Unlike roles focused primarily on established health services, this position gives you the scope to define the approach across occupational hygiene, exposure monitoring, health surveillance, specialist medical support, and preventive programmes. Working across contractors, healthcare providers, occupational hygienists, and project leadership, you will influence how less visible and cumulative health risks are understood, managed, and acted upon across the workforce.

The impact of the role extends well beyond keeping people fit for work today. You will have the opportunity to build an occupational health model designed to protect people throughout the delivery of the project and leave a lasting standard for how workforce health is embedded into a complex industrial construction environment.

This position is based in Luleå, Sweden.

Required qualifications

• Strong leadership experience in occupational health, occupational hygiene, or workplace health management.
• Deep knowledge of health risk management, exposure monitoring, and occupational health practices in industrial, construction, or other high-risk environments.
• Experience developing systems, governance frameworks, and reporting processes that support effective service delivery.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
• High level of integrity and professionalism when handling sensitive health information.
• Fluent in English; Swedish or another Nordic language is an advantage.

Qualifications and Experience

• Degree in Occupational Health, Occupational Hygiene, Nursing, Public Health, Environmental Health, Safety, or related discipline.
• Significant experience in occupational health leadership within industrial, construction, infrastructure, mining, energy, manufacturing, or similar environments.
• Experience building and managing occupational health programs, health surveillance systems, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong understanding of occupational exposure monitoring, health risk assessment, and mitigation strategies.
• Experience supporting large-scale projects with complex contractor and stakeholder environments.
• Knowledge of Swedish occupational health and work-environment legislation is highly desirable.
• Relevant professional certifications or registrations are advantageous.
