Job summary

Hitachi Energy in Ludvika invites an experienced HVDC Protection Project Engineer to design, implement, and test advanced protection systems that ensure reliable transmission and grid stability. You will collaborate with global teams, customers, and suppliers to deliver robust HVDC solutions for the energy transition.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 5–7 years of protection engineering experience, preferably HVDC, FACTS, or transmission systems.
• Understanding of HVDC technology, converter topologies (VSC/LCC) and protection principles.
• Strong knowledge of high voltage substation protection and control systems.
• Experience with IED settings, configuration, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Proficiency with PSCAD, PSS®E, or DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
• Familiarity with IEC 61850 and IEC 60255 standards.
• Fluent in English, written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to specification, design, and engineering of HVDC protection systems for global projects.
• Perform protection studies including fault calculations, relay coordination, and stability analyses.
• Develop and review protection philosophies, design specs, logic diagrams, and test procedures.
• Configure, verify, and validate protection schemes for reliable system performance.
• Support FAT/SAT and field commissioning of protection equipment and systems.
• Provide technical expertise during commissioning and post-commissioning phases.
• Collaborate with project teams, customers, suppliers and engineering disciplines to resolve challenges.
• Drive continuous improvement and mentor junior engineers.
