Job summary

Hitachi Energy Ltd. in Ludvika is seeking an experienced HVDC Protection Project Engineer to join our global HVDC team. You will design, implement, and test advanced protection systems that ensure reliable transmission and grid stability across projects worldwide.

You will lead protection studies, configure IEDs, and collaborate with customers, suppliers, and engineering teams to deliver safe, efficient, and innovative HVDC solutions while mentoring less experienced engineers.

Qualifications

Minimum 5–7 years in protection engineering, HVDC or power transmission.
Strong knowledge of HVDC protection and control systems.
Experience with IED settings, configuration, testing, and troubleshooting.
Proficient with PSCAD, PSS/E, or DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
Familiar with global standards and communication protocols.
Excellent analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

Lead the specification, design, and engineering of HVDC protection systems for global projects.
Perform protection studies including fault calculations and relay coordination.
Develop protection philosophies, design specs, logic diagrams, and test procedures.
Configure, verify, and validate protection schemes for reliability.
Execute FAT and SAT for protection equipment and systems.
Provide technical support during commissioning and post-commissioning.
Collaborate with project teams, customers, suppliers, and other engineering groups.
Drive continuous improvement and mentor junior engineers.
