Job summary

Caspeco seeks a senior backend engineer to join the Checkout team in Uppsala. You will own and maintain complex backend systems, shape architecture, and drive a culture of quality and continuous delivery.

Youll collaborate with delivery and discovery teams, stakeholders, and take ownership of technical direction. You will design scalable services, improve test coverage, and contribute to CI/CD pipelines while communicating clearly in English.

Qualifications

• Strong backend experience with Java and/or Kotlin.
• Experience with document databases, especially MongoDB.
• Solid knowledge of distributed system design.
• Experience with testing strategies and CI/CD pipelines.
• Commitment to code quality, performance, and security.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication.
• Bonus: Azure Cloud familiarity.
• Bonus: Interest in AI.

Caspeco builds systems for the restaurant and experience industry. Our core products include Booking, Point of Sale, Staffing, and Analytics. About the role

We're looking for an experienced senior backend engineer to join our Checkout team. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working on complex, business-critical systems and takes pride in building software that is reliable, maintainable, and built to last.

You'll work closely with your team and stakeholders in both delivery and discovery — helping shape technical direction, contributing to sound architectural decisions, and ensuring steady, predictable progress. We value engineers who are comfortable taking ownership, questioning the status quo, and suggesting improvements when they see them.

How you will make an impact

• Contribute hands-on to the development and maintenance of complex, business-critical backend systems.
• Drive our testing strategy forward and play a key role in moving the team towards continuous delivery and deployment.
• Drive architectural discussions and help evolve our service architecture to support scalability and long-term sustainability.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and contribute to the technical growth of the team.
• Communicate technical plans, trade-offs, and solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Who we think you are

• You have strong experience in backend development using Java and/or Kotlin, and feel confident working in modern backend architectures.
• You have solid experience working with databases, particularly document stores such as MongoDB or similar.
• You have a solid understanding of system design and distributed architectures, and can design scalable, reliable services.
• You have hands-on experience with testing strategies and a genuine interest in improving test coverage, test automation, and CI/CD pipelines.
• You take pride in writing clean, maintainable code and understand the importance of quality, performance, and security.
• You communicate clearly and effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Bonus skills

• Solid experience with Azure Cloud.
• An interest in and proven experience with AI.
