Matters, a Stockholm-based fintech company, is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to own core services that move and interpret users' money—authentication, transaction sync, and open banking. The role is based in Stockholm and focuses on evolving the backend from today to what a bank needs tomorrow.

You will design scalable data models, integrate with Plaid, Tink, and SaltEdge, and drive architecture while migrating from Django to a modern Node stack on Render.

Qualifications

• Strong backend experience with Node.js and modern backend stacks.
• Relational databases and API design proficiency.
• Fintech, payments, or open-banking exposure is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain the backend services in TypeScript/Node.js, prioritizing reliability.
• Design and operate Postgres data models and queue-based sync workers for financial data.
• Integrate and maintain open-banking providers (Plaid, Tink, SaltEdge) and third-party APIs.
• Own bank connections and the data and sync pipelines behind them.
• Shape architecture and technical direction as the company scales.
• Lead migration from Django backend to a modern Node stack on Render.
