Job summary

EG Group’s Mestro team in Stockholm is seeking a Senior Backend Developer to own backend design and development for a platform powering energy efficiency across Europe. You will shape architecture, collaborate with product owners, architects, and frontend developers to translate business goals into robust technical solutions.

You will deploy and operate services in Azure and Kubernetes, address performance and reliability, mentor teammates, and help raise the team’s overall level.

We are now looking for a Senior Backend Developer to join Mestro on a permanent, full-time basis, contributing to the continued development of the platform. This is a hybrid role with our Stockholm office as your base. You will combine days on site with the team and days working remotely.

Your Tasks: Design, Build, and Own the Backend

As a Senior Backend Developer, you will be one of the people the team relies on for the backend systems powering the Mestro platform. You will design and build new functionality, improve what we already have, and work closely with product owners, architects, and frontend developers to turn business goals into technical solutions that hold up over time.

You will:

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs for the Mestro platform.
• Drive architectural and technical decisions, and take responsibility for their consequences.
• Deploy, monitor, and operate applications in Azure and Kubernetes. You build it, you run it.
• Identify and address technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and reliability issues.
• Set the bar for code quality through well-tested code and constructive code reviews.
• Break down complex and unclear requirements together with product owners and turn them into solutions that can be delivered.
• Mentor colleagues and raise the level of the whole team, not just your own output.

Your Profile: An Experienced Developer Who Takes Ownership

You have enough experience to know that writing the code is rarely the hard part. You make pragmatic trade-offs, communicate clearly about risk and scope, and take ownership of your work all the way into production. You want to work in a small team where your opinion carries weight, and where you are expected to have one.

You Are the Ideal Candidate If You:

• Have 8-10 years of professional experience in backend development.
• Have deep knowledge of Java, and solid experience with MS SQL and Azure.
• Have hands-on experience building and running applications in Kubernetes.
• Have a strong grasp of software architecture and distributed systems, including the trade-offs they involve.
• Have experience mentoring developers and driving technical decisions in a team.
• Communicate confidently in English, both in writing and in technical discussion.

Nice to have:

• Experience designing and operating microservice architectures.
• Strong CI/CD and DevOps practices: pipelines, infrastructure as code, and observability.
• Experience with large data volumes, time series data, or integrations with external data sources.
• Background in the energy management, proptech, or data analytics domain.
