MAX IV Laboratory seeks a beamline scientist with a strong background in tomography and materials science to help construct and commission a new beamline. You will develop imaging methodologies, collaborate across divisions, and drive an independent research program in partnership with users and collaborators.

MAX IV is building TomoWISE, a new tomography beamline dedicated to advancing materials science for sustainability. To complete this project, we are forming a specialised team to develop the beamline into a fully operational facility.
As part of this team, which now includes a Beamline Lead Scientist, a Research Engineer and a Data Scientist, you will collaborate closely with experts across the Technical and Science divisions to plan, install, and commission advanced infrastructure and equipment. You will contribute to developing and maintaining tomographic imaging methodologies and supporting future beamline users. The project is led by the TomoWISE Beamline Lead Scientist, and the team will be part of the Beamline Office Group within the Science Division for the duration of the project.

The ideal candidate will have background in materials science and a passion for advancing research on sustainable materials.
The successful candidate will contribute to the construction of a new beamline and help shape its initial scientific program starting from the early commissioning of the large beam option in 2028. Alongside contributing to the beamline project and preparing for its future capabilities, the candidate is expected to propose and carry out an independent research project, preferably within collaborations with present and future users of MAX IV.

MAX IV is a Swedish national large-scale research infrastructure hosted by Lund University. It provides scientists from Sweden and abroad, with intense x-rays and state-of-the‑art instrumentation for research in areas such as engineering, physics, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Its 16 beamlines receive up to 2 000 scientists annually, conducting ground‑breaking experiments in materials and life sciences using the brilliant X-rays.
