Research Assistant in RNA biology and regulatory transcriptomics

The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching within immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. Our key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, national and international collaborations.

The research group of Dr Claudia Kutter invites applications for a Research Assistant position (experimental or experimental/computational) in the field of RNA biology and regulatory transcriptomics.

Your mission

As a key member of the lab, the postholder will apply, optimise and integrate transcriptome-wide profiling approaches, including bulk and single-cell sequencing, together with CRISPR-based genome engineering and biochemical, molecular, and cellular biology techniques. The research will focus on understanding how RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) coordinate the functions of regulatory RNAs during cell differentiation and disease progression, and how they interact with other cofactors in mammalian systems. Experimental models will include diverse cell lines as well as mouse and human tissues.

The postholder will play a leading role in project design and management, data generation, analysis and interpretation, and the implementation of reproducible research practices. They will actively contribute to research discussions, collaborate with team members and national and international partners, and participate in the general activities of the group. The successful candidate will be expected to communicate scientific findings through publications in peer‑reviewed journals and presentations at scientific conferences.

The postholder will benefit from the Kutter Lab’s extensive expertise in transcriptome‑wide regulation and functional genomics.

Your profile

We are seeking a highly motivated scientist with a strong background in transcriptomics, molecular biology, genetics and/or biochemistry. In addition to the above requirements for the position:

• Graduate level qualification (master degree) and, for those with a different study program, at least 240 credits with a minimum of 60 credits awarded at the master level.
• Proven experience in eukaryotic RNA biology, gene regulation, transcriptome‑wide approaches and mammalian cell culture techniques.
• The ideal candidate is collaborative, curious and scientifically driven, with the ability to contribute independent and original ideas to the project.
• Excellent communication skills and fluency in spoken and written English.

Meritorious for the position

• Experience with bioinformatics and statistical programming (e.g., Python and/or R for data analysis and visualization).
• Prior independent research experience and productive work in multidisciplinary teams, as evidenced by first‑ and/or co‑authored publications.
