Job summary

Hitachi Energy in Västerås, Sweden, is seeking an R&D Scientist with expertise in data‑driven monitoring, diagnostics, and IoT solutions for power systems. You will work in collaborative teams with access to state‑of‑the‑art facilities to advance sustainable energy technologies.

You will validate concepts through measurements and data analysis, manage R&D projects, and contribute to software, hardware, and technical reports.

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent research background in related field.
• Strong research experience in digital substation equipment/architecture.
• Multidisciplinary knowledge including IoT, network architecture, and software development.
• Hands-on programming across multiple languages.
• Experience leading R&D projects or work packages is a plus.
• English fluency, written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Identify technical requirements and drive innovation for future sustainable energy systems.
• Develop and deliver solutions to complex technical challenges within R&D projects.
• Validate concepts through lab and field testing with measurements and data analysis.
• Manage R&D projects with structured targets and technical leadership.
• Create proposals for R&D projects aligned with business needs and commercial potential.
• Collaborate with team members, customers, suppliers and academia.
• Deliver results as software, hardware, reports, patents, publications and presentations.
• Build an internal network and share knowledge across the organization.
