Job summary

Hitachi Energy's HVDC Transformers R&D team seeks an experienced mechanical engineer specializing in winding and active-part technology. You will lead design improvements, develop manufacturing methods, and challenge legacy approaches to create future-ready concepts.

You will collaborate with global experts, build a network with HVDC Transformer factories, and contribute to technical leadership and cross-disciplinary knowledge sharing across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 3+ years’ experience in design & engineering.
  • Power transformer domain knowledge.
  • 3D CAD experience with Creo/ProE.
  • Fluent English in writing and speaking.
  • Willingness to learn and try new things.

Responsibilities

  • Create conceptual Transformer winding designs meeting requirements (functional, technical, quality, etc).
  • Create detailed designs and 3D models; perform mechanical verifications.
  • Apply DFA/DFM/FMEA practices.
  • Prepare reports and related documents.
  • Ensure winding-related processes and calculation methods are state of the art; collaborate with programmers to implement methods.
  • Provide technical support to design, manufacturing, quality and supply chain teams.
  • Lead and share knowledge; build a network across HVDC Transformer factories.

Job description

For our HVDC Transformers research and development team we are looking for a R&D mechanical engineer in the field of Transformer Winding/Active part technology. You will lead activities to improve transformer winding/active part performance, design and manufacturing methods while challenging legacy routines and developing better suited concepts for the future. The role will cooperate closely with experts in different transformer technology fields as well as with transformer design and manufacturing specialists globally. You will build and maintain a network with the HVDC Transformer factories globally, collecting the inputs and supporting implementation of new development.

Working in R&D will give you the possibility to use your creativity to solve a wide spectrum of challenges. You will have exciting and varied work in front of you where you will get a broad network internally and externally. Work with both the local factory and the global organization within Transformers and have career development opportunities as a Specialist or as a Project Manager.

Your Responsibilities
  • Creating conceptual designs of Transformer windings to meet specified requirements (functional, technical, quality, etc).
  • Ability to create detailed design and 3D modeling as well as running mechanical verifications using simulation tools.
  • Running Design for Excellence practices (DFA, DFM, FMEA, etc).
  • Preparing reports and related documents in accordance with internal and external requirements.
  • Technical standards: Ensure that winding-related processes and calculation methods are state of the art. Work with programmers to implement and test new methods in the design software.
  • Technical support: Support the design, manufacturing, quality and supply chain organizations with technical expertise to ensure that technical requirements are fulfilled.
  • Technical leadership and knowledge sharing: Coach and provide support and technical advice to colleagues on winding-related topics. Maintain a network of engineering professionals to share best practices across different disciplines and the HVDC Transformer factories.
Your background
  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree combined with work-life experience in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 3+ Years of experience in Design & Engineering.
  • Domain expertise in Power transformers.
  • Fundamental knowledge of using different materials and manufacturing methods.
  • Understanding of electrical, magnetic and thermal phenomena.
  • Advanced knowledge of 3D CAD software Creo/ProE.
  • Fluent command of English, both written and spoken.
  • Willingness to learn and try new things without fear of failure!
