Job summary

Hitachi Energy seeks a Project Planner in Västerås or Ludvika, Sweden, to drive project controls across HVDC delivery. You will develop baselines, maintain time-phased schedules, and provide key status and forecast data to project managers and stakeholders.

The role requires an engineering degree and EPC project planning experience, with strong communication and analytical skills. Primavera P6 proficiency is essential; HVDC project experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree in a relevant field and experience as a Project Planner in EPC/energy projects.
  • Experience planning and cost control on lump sum EPC projects.
  • Primavera P6 knowledge; basic cost-management skills a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to development of the Project Baseline (scope, cost, schedule) and ensure reliable planning foundations.
  • Provide project control info: schedule, progress, forecast, resources, risks.
  • Collaborate with project team to identify and detail activities for realistic schedules.
  • Define work and cost breakdown, maintain integrated baselined schedules with time-phased data.
  • Monitor progress and analyze critical paths to keep milestones on track.
  • Prepare progress reports and program updates for customers and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to tenders and project planning for HVDC projects.
  • Preplanning to examine scope, WBS, engineering quality and obligations.

The opportunity

HVDC is a product group in Hitachi Energy, which develops, manufactures and sells DC transmission systems on a global market. HVDC technology is used to transmit electricity over long distances and for power transmission via submarine cables. It is also used to connect power systems. In this exciting role, you are the one who has the knowledge of Project Controls and who is responsible for the planning, scheduling, monitoring and controlling processes of our delivery projects.

This role is based in Västerås or Ludvika, Sweden

How You’ll Make An Impact
  • Contribute to the development of the Project Baseline (scope of work, cost and schedule) and have the supportive role at project launching stage. On an ongoing basis, ensuring accurate, reliable planning foundations
  • Provide the Project Manager, and the Line Managers with project control aspects including Earned Value Management Analysis, reliable and comprehensive information about the project status: schedule, progress, planned, actual, forecast, resources and productivity, trends, and risks.
  • Collaborate with all project team members, investigate project requirements with project team, check that all essential work activities have been identified in sufficient detail to serve as a basis for developing realistic project schedules.
  • Define, jointly with the project team, project work and cost breakdown structure, develop and maintain properly linked, required resource loaded/integrated, baseline and current schedules that provide time phased baseline, actual and forecast data for project.
  • Monitor project progress and regularly analyze project critical paths to ensure all critical path activities and project milestones are progressed to the plan, notify project team of any deviations or scheduling issues, and provide input for optimizing resources.
  • Challenges functional owners on forecast completion dates to ensure dates are realistic
  • Prepare and issue progress reports, program updates and productivity data on a regular basis and as requested by customers and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to Tenders and Project planning activities for HVDC Projects.
  • Carries out necessary preplanning to examine scope of work and services, work breakdown structure, engineering quality and quantities, financial and contractual obligations, and division of responsibility to control and report on planning and scheduling activities.
  • Capability to work with third parties to ensure plans are realistic and achievable; analyses third party contractor progress information.
Your background
  • You hold an Engineering degree in relevant field and have experience of working as a Project Planner in EPC Company or similar
  • Thorough understanding of logical sequencing and interfacing of project execution activities in EPC energy projects
  • Experience in planning and cost control on lump sum projects or equivalent and ability to lead project controls activities in multi-location EPC projects
  • Experience to plan activities and to monitor execution schedules and physical progress in all project phases
  • Strong communication skills, ability to highlight key issues and to communicate them to management and other stakeholders
  • Ability to drive project teams to control schedule performance
  • Analytical skills for forecasting outcomes
  • Proficiency in English is required for this role
  • Primavera P6 and Basic cost-management knowledge expertise is a plus
  • Experience with HVDC projects will be an added advantage.
