Job description

Employment Type: Full-Time / Permanent

About the Company

Our client is a leading European data centre delivery organisation specialising in the design, construction and commissioning of high-specification data centre facilities.

With an established presence across Europe and the Nordics, the company delivers complex projects for some of the world's largest hyperscale and technology clients, operating across the full project lifecycle.

Due to continued growth across the Nordic region, our client is seeking an experienced Project Director to take overall leadership responsibility for a major data centre project in Skellefteå, Sweden.

The Opportunity

This is a senior leadership position with overall responsibility for the successful delivery of a large-scale, technically complex data centre development.

The Project Director will provide strategic and operational leadership across the project, working closely with the client, consultants, contractors, commercial teams and senior internal stakeholders.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the project is delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the required quality standards, while maintaining strong client relationships throughout the project lifecycle.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced data centre construction professional to take ownership of a major hyperscale programme within one of Europe's fastest-growing data centre markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and direction for the project from construction through to completion and handover.

  • Take full accountability for project delivery, including programme, commercial performance, quality, safety and client satisfaction.

  • Lead and manage multidisciplinary project teams across CSA, MEP, commissioning, commercial, planning, quality and HSE functions.

  • Establish and maintain effective project governance, reporting structures and delivery strategies.

  • Develop and manage the overall project programme, ensuring key milestones and critical path activities are achieved.

  • Work closely with the client and key stakeholders to establish project objectives, priorities and delivery expectations.

  • Manage relationships with the client, design teams, consultants, specialist subcontractors and supply chain partners.

  • Provide senior-level oversight of construction activities and ensure effective coordination between all project disciplines.

  • Monitor project performance against budget, programme and contractual requirements.

  • Work closely with commercial teams to manage project financial performance, variations, risk and commercial exposure.

  • Identify potential project risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.

  • Ensure robust change-control processes are maintained throughout the project.

  • Drive a strong culture of health, safety, quality and environmental compliance.

  • Ensure project documentation, reporting and governance requirements are consistently maintained.

  • Lead regular progress meetings with senior client and project stakeholders.

  • Provide clear and accurate reporting to senior management on project progress, risks, commercial position and programme performance.

  • Support the resolution of technical, commercial and contractual issues.

  • Ensure successful testing, commissioning, completion and client handover.

  • Promote continuous improvement and best practice across the project delivery team.

Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate will have significant experience delivering large-scale construction projects, ideally within the data centre, mission-critical, pharmaceutical, semiconductor or similarly complex sectors.

You should have:

  • Extensive experience in a senior project management or project leadership position.

  • Proven experience delivering large-scale construction projects from pre-construction through to completion.

  • Strong understanding of CSA and MEP construction disciplines.

  • Previous experience managing complex multidisciplinary teams and major subcontractor packages.

  • Strong commercial and contractual awareness.

  • Excellent programme and project controls knowledge.

  • Experience working directly with major clients and senior stakeholders.

  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies, project governance and risk management.

  • Demonstrable experience managing projects with significant budgets and challenging programmes.

  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder-management skills.

  • A structured and commercially minded approach to project delivery.

  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, international project environment.

Previous hyperscale data centre experience is highly desirable, particularly candidates who have delivered major European or Nordic data centre campuses.

Experience working for a major general contractor, EPC, specialist data centre contractor or client-side organisation would be advantageous.

Leadership Profile

The successful Project Director will be a confident senior leader capable of operating at both strategic and operational levels.

You will be expected to:

  • Lead from the front and create a high-performing project culture.

  • Build strong relationships with clients and project stakeholders.

  • Make commercially sound decisions under pressure.

  • Challenge project teams where necessary while maintaining strong collaboration.

  • Competitive salary package, negotiable depending on experience.

  • Opportunity to work with a leading European data centre delivery organisation.
