Postdoctoral scholarship (2 years) within EDUDIS
Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Department of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies

The Department of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies at Umeå University invites applications for a full‑time postdoctoral scholarship within the research program EDUDIS. The scholarship is available for two years, starting 1 September 2026 (or by agreement). It is funded by the Kempe Foundations, with a tax‑free stipend of 720,000 SEK (≈30 000 SEK per month), paid in four installments over the scholarship period.

Research program

The EDUDIS program (Education and Disability in History), funded by the Swedish Research Council, investigates the evolving relationship between education and disability. The scholarship holder will join a research environment with Swedish and international scholars and may receive funding for conference participation.

Qualifications

Applicants must have completed a doctoral degree (or equivalent) in history, history of ideas, education, educational work or a closely related field no more than three years before the application deadline, unless special circumstances exist. Candidates should possess strong collaborative skills and excellent written and oral communication in Swedish and/or English, and be able to work independently and in a team.

Assessment

The primary criterion is scientific excellence. The research plan will be evaluated for relevance to EDUDIS research questions, quality and feasibility, and will be supplemented by prior independent scholarly work, including the doctoral thesis.

  • Copy of doctoral thesis and up to four relevant articles
  • Any additional supporting documents
Conditions and benefits

The scholarship is full‑time (100 %) for two years. The stipend is tax‑free and delivered in four installments. The scholarship holder is expected to be physically present in Umeå to a high extent and to contribute to the local research environment.
