Job description

Postdoc in Solid-State Batteries – Scalable Production of Solid Electrolytes
Institution

KTH Royal Institute of Technology, School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health

Overview: The project aims to advance lithium solid-state batteries (SSB) by developing scalable, solvent-mediated processes for the production of ceramic solid electrolytes and by addressing the related industrial aspects such as solvent recovery, solid-liquid separation, drying, and process intensification. The postdoctoral position will be conducted within the framework of the COMPEL initiative and focused on scalable production concepts to support industrial manufacturing of next-generation solid-state battery electrolytes.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on scalable production of ceramic solid electrolytes for solid-state batteries, with emphasis on particle size distribution and morphology control to ensure reproducible electrolyte performance.
  • Develop and optimize solvent-mediated processes for sulfide or halide electrolytes in chemical engineering settings.
  • Investigate industrial aspects related to scale-up, including solvent recovery, solid-liquid separation, drying, and process intensification.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across synthesis, cell assembly, characterization, modeling, and manufacturing to translate fundamental findings into scalable process concepts.
Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related subject. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English, as this will be required in day-to-day work.
  • Strong laboratory and instrumental skills.
  • Aware of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.

Preferred qualifications

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline.
  • Experience in solid-state batteries and material synthesis.
  • An innovative mindset and ability to work independently.
  • Good collaborative skills and an interest in working in a team.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.

Application and Selection

To apply, use KTH’s recruitment system. The application must include:

  • CV including relevant professional experience and knowledge.
  • Copies of diplomas and grades from university studies. Translations into English or Swedish if the original documents are not in West-European languages.
  • Brief account of why you want to conduct research, your academic interests, and how they relate to your previous studies and future goals, maximum one page.
  • Contacts to references or recommendation letters.

Complete applications must be received by the last day of application, midnight CET/CEST.

About the employment

The position is offered for up to two years.

Some positions at KTH may be classified as security-sensitive under the Protective Security Act (2018:585). If applicable, a security clearance will be conducted with the applicant’s consent, and employment is contingent upon approval following the clearance.
