Karlstad University is seeking a highly-motivated researcher to develop and apply a mass-spectrometric technique to detect oxygenated organic radicals in ambient air. This position will involve characterizing and optimizing a state-of-the-art mass spectrometer as part of an ERC Advanced project.
The ideal candidate will possess a doctoral degree in a relevant field, along with significant practical experience in mass spectrometry and excellent communication skills. Join KTH for a dynamic work environment with opportunities for professional growth.
Oxygenated organic radicals are key drivers of the chemistry in many systems, such as the metabolism of living organisms, polymerisation, combustion systems, and the natural environment (Earth’s atmosphere). Very few techniques are available to detect them today. We are seeking a highly‑motivated researcher to develop and apply a mass‑spectrometric technique (proton transfer mass spectrometer, PTr‑MS) to detect individual oxygenated organic radicals in ambient air as part of the prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Advanced project EPHEMERAL.
The work will include the characterization and optimisation of a state‑of‑the‑art time‑of‑flight mass spectrometer (PTr‑MS) and related instruments to detect these radicals in laboratory and ambient air. This position will be in the Nozière group at the Department of Chemistry of KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden.
