The role
Department Hybrid and installation within Vehicle Propulsion and energy is seeking a System architect for OBD2 diagnostics.
Responsibilities
- As an On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) System Architect, you will lead cross-functional system design activities to create robust, compliant, and scalable vehicle diagnostic solutions.
- You will be responsible for the end-to-end OBD system architecture, ensuring alignment between regulatory requirements, system design, software implementation, verification, and vehicle diagnostics strategy.
- You will work closely with controls engineers, software developers, homologation specialists, system safety experts, verification teams, and technical specialists to deliver optimized diagnostic solutions across the vehicle platform.
- Define and maintain the vehicle-level OBD architecture and system design.
- Translate regulatory and product requirements into technical diagnostic solutions.
- Lead cross-functional discussions regarding diagnostic concepts, fault detection, monitoring strategies, aftersales diagnostics, and repair methodologies.
- Drive alignment between OBD, Diagnostic Core (DEM/FIM), control systems, product quality monitoring, predictive maintenance, and safety-related functions.
- Define verification and validation strategies to ensure compliance and system robustness.
- Identify critical interfaces, dependencies, and architectural risks across vehicle systems.
- Support compliance activities related to OBD regulations and future requirements such as Euro 7 OBM and evolving diagnostic legislation.
- Extensive experience in On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) and vehicle diagnostics.
- Strong background in vehicle system architecture and embedded software development.
- Understanding of diagnostic frameworks such as AUTOSAR Diagnostic Event Manager (DEM), Function Inhibition Manager (FIM), and diagnostic communication concepts.
- Experience with regulatory compliance, homologation, and emissions-related diagnostics.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders across organizational boundaries.
- Strong communication skills and a systems-thinking mindset.
- Experience with Euro 6, Euro 7, OBD, or OBM legislation.
- Knowledge of fault management, diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), calibration, and vehicle verification.
- Experience working with aftermarket diagnostics and service repair methodologies.
- Familiarity with verification, validation, and quality assurance processes in automotive development.
