Ericsson Research in Sweden is seeking an MSc candidate to explore how network performance impacts robotic systems. The role focuses on modelling, experimentation, and developing mappings from network conditions to robot performance.
You will study latency, throughput, jitter, and packet loss effects on control accuracy and teleoperation stability, while building mathematical models and evaluating empirical utilities to guide network operating points.
Ericsson Research develops innovative communication solutions, system concepts, and technologies that shape the mobile networks of today and tomorrow. By combining experience from real-world network operations with extensive knowledge of existing standards and forward-looking research, Ericsson Research contributes to the development of mobile radio communication from 5G to 6G and beyond.

By combining experience from real-world network operations with extensive knowledge of existing standards and forward-looking research, Ericsson Research contributes to the development of mobile radio communication from 5G to 6G and beyond.
The Radio Research area focuses on advanced system and signal-processing solutions for radio-access networks, including multi-antenna technologies. Future 5G and 6G networks will support demanding applications such as mobile broadband, the Internet of Things, and machine-type communication. Networked robotics—including cloud robotics, teleoperated robots, and multi-robot systems—represents one of the most challenging use cases. These systems depend on reliable communication for control loops, sensor feedback, and video streams.
Factors such as latency, jitter, throughput, and packet loss can significantly affect robotic performance. However, network configuration and robot performance are often considered separately. A better understanding of the relationship between communication performance and robotic performance could enable robots to request the level of network resources they need for a specific task, avoiding both over- and under-provisioning.
At Ericsson, you´ll have an outstanding opportunity. The chance to use your skills and imagination to push the boundaries of what´s possible. To build solutions never seen before to some of the world’s toughest problems. You´ll be challenged, but you won’t be alone. You´ll be joining a team of diverse innovators, all driven to go beyond the status quo to craft what comes next.
Encouraging a diverse and inclusive organization is core to our values at Ericsson, that's why we champion it in everything we do. We truly believe that by collaborating with people with different experiences we drive innovation, which is essential for our future growth. We encourage people from all backgrounds to apply and realize their full potential as part of our Ericsson team. Ericsson is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer. learn more.
