Job summary
Jobtailor is seeking a skilled mainframe developer to design, build, and optimize COBOL/JCL-based applications on IBM z/OS. You will troubleshoot production issues, manage batch workflows, and support modernization initiatives in a banking-related context.
The role requires strong problem-solving, communication and teamwork, with experience in COBOL, DB2, JCL, IMS, and z/OS. A degree in computer science or engineering is expected.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in mainframe development.
- Experience with IBM z/OS in a batch processing environment.
- Strong knowledge of COBOL, DB2, DL/I, JCL and IMS.
- Understanding of mainframe batch processing and tools like ChangeMan, OPC, FAN.
- Familiarity with incident handling, root cause analysis, and production support.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Basic knowledge on .NET and Visual Basic with mainframe integration an advantage.
- Structured troubleshooting and documentation approach.
- Able to work closely with application teams, operations, and infrastructure specialists.
- Experience in banking or financial services domain.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enhance critical business applications on IBM z/OS.
- Design, develop, test and maintain COBOL and JCL programs.
- Troubleshoot production issues and optimize batch workflows.
- Manage batch jobs and online transactions.
- Debug and optimize legacy systems.
- Support system integrations and modernization initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams for system changes.
- Document the solution.
