Job description

The Lead Designer serves as the technical leader and key design authority within the Agile team. This role works closely with the Agile Product Owner (APO), Scrum Master, architects, and development teams to ensure scalable, feasible, and high-quality technical solutions aligned with business objectives and architectural standards.

The Lead Designer drives solution design activities, supports technical decision-making, and helps improve overall team effectiveness through mentoring, coaching, and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Solution Design

• Act as the primary technical spokesperson for the Agile team.
• Drive and coordinate end-to-end solution design activities across initiatives and features.
• Collaborate closely with the APO to ensure proposed solutions are technically feasible, scalable, and aligned with business requirements.
• Guide the team in defining architecture, integrations, technical workflows, and design best practices.
• Promote maintainable, reusable, and high-quality technical solutions.
• Work closely with Scrum Masters, APOs, architects, and stakeholders to support successful delivery.
• Function as a protective technical “shield” for the development team by managing interruptions and allowing developers to remain focused on delivery priorities.
• Facilitate technical discussions, design reviews, and decision-making sessions within the team.
• Support Agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning, backlog refinement, and release activities.

Continuous Improvement & Technical Excellence

• Advocate for prioritization of bug fixes, technical debt reduction, automation, infrastructure improvements, and architectural roadmap initiatives.
• Drive continuous improvement in system stability, scalability, performance, and development efficiency.
• Encourage engineering best practices, knowledge sharing, and innovation within the team.

Coaching & Mentorship

• Take a leadership role alongside the Scrum Master and APO in improving team effectiveness.
• Mentor and coach team members on technical design, architecture principles, and development standards.
• Foster collaboration, ownership, and continuous learning within the Agile team.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong experience in solution design, system architecture, and Agile delivery environments.
• Solid understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and modern engineering practices.
• Experience working with cross-functional Agile teams and stakeholders.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
• Ability to balance technical strategy with delivery priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in enterprise-scale systems and distributed architectures.
• Knowledge of cloud technologies, APIs, integrations, and automation practices.
• Experience mentoring technical teams and driving architectural improvements.
