Job summary

Tikab is seeking a Junior Full Stack Developer with a UX/UI focus in Stockholm, hybrid. You will work on real features in our products from day one, combining design and coding, with mentorship from senior developers.

The backend uses Django and PostgreSQL; the frontend uses TypeScript, with ongoing framework review. You will need to read code, design interfaces, and contribute to gamified, visual engineering solutions.

Qualifications

  • Real visual ability: composition, typography, colour, hierarchy.
  • Solid front-end fundamentals: HTML, CSS, responsive design.
  • Practical experience or training on the back end and with APIs and databases.
  • Experience with version control and readable, maintainable code.
  • Ability to work with people who are not developers and translate needs into interfaces.
  • A portfolio or project walk-through demonstrating intentional design.
  • Degree or equivalent experience in CS, software engineering, interaction design, or related field.
  • Curiosity about a domain most designers never touch; BIM or engineering tools are a bonus.
  • Willingness to ask questions early; interruptions are welcomed.
  • Full fluency in spoken and written Swedish is expected; very good English required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop real features in our products from the start with guidance from senior developers.
  • Build and design both frontend and backend components; read the code around changes.
  • Work on interfaces with complex content: drawings, models, point clouds, review workflows.
  • Contribute to the visual and interactive aspects: 3D, gamified experiences.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and non-technical stakeholders to translate needs into usable interfaces.

Job description

---

Company Description

Tikab is a Swedish engineering firm of around 40 people working on bridges, locks, industrial structures and large infrastructure projects across northern Europe. We do dynamic calculations, strength analysis, heavy mechanical design, and BIM/VDC coordination on some of the more demanding projects in the region.

We also build software, and that is where this role sits. Our users are structural and mechanical engineers, and many of them work down the hall. You will not be designing for an imagined persona described in a brief. You can walk over, watch someone use what you built, and see immediately what you got wrong. Tikab is partner-owned and profitable at roughly 50 MSEK in revenue, which means we choose our projects and we are not optimising for someone else's exit.

We have a heavy focus on visual solutions and gamification, bringing novel visual communication and interaction to the sector. We have delivered several educational experiences leaning heavily on game design, from digital board games to gamified VR. Our software team also develops products we own, including Flatbox, a review platform built on the BEAst standard, and OmniTwin, a digital twin and point cloud platform that runs in the cloud or on-prem, including for public sector clients. Alongside this we deliver bespoke systems for clients in construction and heavy industry.

The Role

Junior Full Stack Developer with a UX/UI focus, Stockholm, hybrid.

This is a role for someone early in their career who builds as well as designs, and who wants to do both rather than pick one. You will work on real features in our products from the start, with support and review from senior developers. You will not be parked on tickets nobody else wanted.

The backend is Django and PostgreSQL. The frontend is TypeScript, and the framework direction is under active review rather than settled. You do not need to know all of it on day one. You do need to be the kind of person who reads the code around the thing they are changing.

The design side of this role is genuine work, not decoration. Engineering software in this sector is mostly ugly and mostly hard to use, which means there is a lot of room to do better. You will work on interfaces where the underlying content is complex: drawings, models, point clouds, review workflows with real consequences if someone misses something. Making that legible is a design problem before it is a code problem.

There is also the visual and interactive side of what we do: 3D, gamified experiences, and finding ways to make complex engineering understandable to people who are not engineers. How much of that ends up in this role depends on what you are good at and what you want.

We are also putting AI into our products and our development workflow, where it does real work and where we can stand behind what it produces. Our clients build things that have to hold, and we take the same view of software. As a junior developer this means we will expect you to understand the code you commit, whether or not a model helped you write it.

What we are looking for

Real visual ability, demonstrated. Composition, typography, colour, hierarchy: the things that separate an interface someone designed from an interface someone assembled. We are looking for a visual designer's instincts in someone who can also build the thing.

Solid front-end fundamentals: HTML, CSS and responsive design done properly rather than fought with.

Practical experience or training on the back end, including working with APIs and databases. This can come from studies, personal projects, an internship or a first job. We care more about what you have actually built than about where it happened.

The basics of working in a codebase with other people: version control, debugging your way to the actual cause, and writing code someone else can read in six months.

The ability to work with people who are not developers and turn what they need into an interface that makes sense. Our engineers will tell you what the problem is, not what to build.

Work you can show us, and we do mean show. A portfolio, a repository, a project you can walk us through. We want to see something you made that looks good on purpose, not by accident. For this role that matters more than a CV.

A degree or equivalent experience in computer science, software engineering, interaction design, or a related field.

Curiosity about a domain most designers never touch. You do not need to know anything about construction or infrastructure yet, and experience with BIM or engineering tools is a bonus rather than an expectation. You do need to find it interesting that a bridge has to be reviewed by people who cannot afford to miss a detail.

The willingness to ask questions early rather than guess for three days. We would much rather be interrupted.

Full fluency in spoken and written professional swedish is expected. Very good knowledge of the english language is required.
