Job summary

Paradox Interactive in Stockholm is seeking a Junior Data Engineer to help build and maintain data pipelines and models that support analytics, decision-making, and player insights.

You will work with data engineers, data scientists, analysts, game teams, and other business functions to ingest, transform, test, and document data from games and corporate systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 0-2 years of experience in data engineering, software development, analytics engineering, or related role (internships and projects count).

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain data ingestion and transformation pipelines under guidance.
  • Integrate data from game telemetry, platforms, and corporate systems into our data platform.
  • Support scheduled and event-driven data workflows and troubleshoot pipeline failures.
  • Develop and maintain reliable data models for analytics and reporting.
  • Write tests and validation checks to identify incomplete, inconsistent, or inaccurate data.
  • Monitor data freshness and pipeline performance and help resolve issues.
  • Document data sources, pipelines, models, ownership, and operational procedures.
  • Follow security, privacy, access control, and responsible data handling standards.
  • Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, data scientists, game teams, and stakeholders.

Job description

As a Junior Data Engineer at Paradox Interactive, you will be part of our Data & Analytics team, helping build and maintain the data pipelines and models that support analytics, decision-making, and player insights. You will work closely with data engineers, data scientists, analysts, game teams, and other business functions to ingest, transform, test, and document data from games and corporate systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain data ingestion and transformation pipelines under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Integrate data from game telemetry, platforms, and corporate systems into our data platform.
  • Support scheduled and event-driven data workflows and help troubleshoot pipeline failures.
  • Develop and maintain reliable data models that make data easier to use for analytics and reporting.
  • Write tests and validation checks to identify incomplete, inconsistent, or inaccurate data.
  • Monitor data freshness and pipeline performance and help resolve issues.
  • Documentation, Governance & Collaboration:
  • Document data sources, pipelines, models, ownership, and operational procedures.
  • Follow standards for security, privacy, access control, and responsible data handling.
  • Work collaboratively with data engineers, analysts, data scientists, game teams, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent, e.g., higher vocational education diploma) in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 0-2 years of experience in data engineering, software development, analytics engineering, or a related role (internships and academic or personal projects count).
Technical Skills
  • Programming Languages: Working knowledge of Python or a similar programming language.
  • SQL & Databases: Experience writing SQL queries and a basic understanding of relational databases.
  • Data Pipelines: Basic understanding of ETL/ELT concepts and data transformation.
  • Software Practices: Familiarity with Git, testing, debugging, and structured development workflows.
  • Data Quality: An understanding of why reliable, documented, and well-governed data matters.
Soft Skills
  • Problem Solving: A structured approach to investigating issues and finding practical solutions.
  • Attention to Detail: Care in handling data and verifying that solutions work as intended.
  • Communication: Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Team Player: Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Curiosity & Growth: A desire to learn, take feedback, and develop as a data engineer.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with a cloud data platform or cloud provider, such as Snowflake, AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.
  • Exposure to data transformation or orchestration tools such as dbt or Airflow.
  • Basic knowledge of infrastructure as code, containers, or CI/CD.
  • Understanding of data governance and best practices for data privacy and security.
  • Previous experience or a strong interest in the gaming industry.
