GKN Aerospace Sweden is seeking a Global Infrastructure Architect to govern Linux-based OSs, container platforms, Kubernetes services, and cloud-native infrastructure technologies.

You will lead global infrastructure standards, roadmaps, and reference architectures, ensuring security, resilience, and regulatory compliance while enabling cloud-first strategies across the enterprise.

Qualifications

  • Proven expertise in Linux operating systems within large-scale enterprise environments.
  • Extensive experience designing and operating Kubernetes platforms.
  • Experience with cloud-native architectures across major cloud providers (Azure/AWS/Google).
  • Strong understanding of Infrastructure-as-Code and automation frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain the global Linux and container platform strategy.
  • Develop technology roadmaps aligned with business and digital transformation objectives.
  • Establish enterprise standards, patterns, and reference architectures for Linux and Kubernetes environments.
  • Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture principles and infrastructure strategy.
  • Own the global architecture for RHEL, Ubuntu, SUSE, and other Linux OSs.
  • Define standards for Linux deployment, hardening, management, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
  • Lead OS modernisation initiatives and platform standardisation efforts.
  • Ensure Linux platforms meet availability, performance, resilience, and recovery requirements.
  • Act as the senior technical authority for Linux and container technologies.
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to engineers and cloud teams.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends.

About The Role

The Global Infrastructure Architect is responsible for defining, governing, and evolving the organisation's strategic architecture for Linux-based operating systems, containerisation platforms, Kubernetes services, and cloud-native infrastructure technologies.

The role provides technical leadership across global infrastructure, ensuring Linux and container platforms are secure, resilient, scalable, and aligned with enterprise architecture, cyber security, operational, and compliance requirements.

Working closely with Cloud Engineering, Cyber Security, Infrastructure Operations, Enterprise Architecture, and Application Development teams, the architect establishes standards, reference architectures, and technology roadmaps that accelerate modern application delivery while maintaining operational stability and regulatory compliance.

The role acts as the global technical authority for Linux operating systems, Kubernetes platforms, container services, and associated automation technologies, enabling the organisation's cloud-first and digital transformation strategies.

Job Responsibilities
  • Define and maintain the global Linux and container platform strategy.
  • Develop technology roadmaps aligned with business and digital transformation objectives.
  • Establish enterprise standards, patterns, and reference architectures for Linux and Kubernetes environments.
  • Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture principles and infrastructure strategy.
  • Own the global architecture for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Ubuntu, SUSE, and other approved Linux operating systems.
  • Define standards for Linux operating system deployment, hardening, management, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
  • Lead operating system modernisation initiatives and platform standardisation efforts.
  • Ensure Linux platforms meet availability, performance, resilience, and recovery requirements.
  • Act as the senior technical authority for Linux and container technologies.
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to infrastructure engineers and cloud teams.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends.
Job Qualifications
  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Significant experience in infrastructure architecture and enterprise platform design.
  • Deep expertise in Linux operating systems within large-scale enterprise environments.
  • Extensive experience designing and operating Kubernetes platforms.
  • Strong understanding of container technologies including Docker and OCI standards.
  • Experience with cloud-native architectures across Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
  • Expertise in Infrastructure-as-Code and automation frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of networking, security, identity, and infrastructure resilience.
  • Experience developing enterprise standards, governance frameworks, and technical roadmaps.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to speak and write fluently in English
Desirable
  • Experience in aerospace, manufacturing, defence, or regulated industries.
  • Experience with OpenShift, Rancher, Tanzu, or managed Kubernetes platforms.
  • Experience with service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd).
  • Knowledge of platform engineering and Internal Developer Platforms (IDP).
  • Experience supporting sovereign or highly regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of cyber recovery and operational resilience frameworks.
  • Knowledge of the Swedish language
Employment Conditions

This full-time position comes with a permanent contract at our site in Trollhättan, Sweden.

The applicant should be able to gain the right to live and work in Sweden.

Travel to other locations within Sweden as well as in the EU is expected.

The position requires that you undergo and be approved according to the current regulations for security protection. For positions where GKN's customer has requirements for security classification, this may, in some cases, involve specific citizenship requirements.
