Job summary

Blykalla in Stockholm is seeking a Fluid System Engineer to own one or more SEALER fluid systems from concept through qualification and to define system requirements, design, and integration.

You will lead trade-off studies, coordinate with suppliers, and ensure safety objectives alignment while interfacing with Mechanical, Nuclear, Safety, Test, Quality, and Electrical teams. Fluency in English required, Swedish a plus.

Qualifications

• 3+ years experience as a system, process, or fluid engineer on complex power, process, or industrial plants.
• Degree in mechanical, energy, chemical, nuclear, or related engineering.
• Solid working knowledge of applied thermodynamics, thermohydraulics, and heat and mass transfer.
• Working understanding of P&IDs, PFDs, piping and instrumentation conventions, and interface with layout, electrical, and I&C.
• Ability to write clear technical specifications, review supplier deliverables, and manage multi-vendor dialogue.
• Familiarity with applicable industrial codes and standards (ASME, PED, or equivalent).
• Familiarity with CAD tools; comfort scripting in Python or MATLAB is a plus.
• Fluent in English; Swedish language skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own the functional and design requirements, design basis, and system architecture for the fluid systems assigned to you.
• Lead trade-off studies on system configuration and drive design through concept, preliminary, and detailed design phases.
• Define the scope of supporting analyses (thermohydraulic, structural, chemical) and review results.
• Define supplier work packages, evaluate proposals, and manage dialogue with suppliers and partners from concept through qualification.
• Ensure system requirements traceable to plant-level and safety objectives and integration with neighbouring systems.
• Contribute to system-level documentation, chair or participate in design reviews, and maintain plant baseline.
• Support commissioning and testing activities as the plant progresses toward operation.

What you'll get to do

As Fluid System Engineer you will own one or more of the fluid systems of SEALER, from concept through qualification. Depending on where the department needs support at the time of your joining, this could mean the cover gas system, the lead conditioning and purification circuits, the depressurisation system, other safety-classified reactor auxiliaries, or systems on the secondary side. In every case you will act as the system-responsible engineer: defining what the system must do, how it should be designed, and how it integrates into the plant.

• Lead trade-off studies on system configuration, and drive the design forward through concept, preliminary, and detailed design phases.

• Define the scope of supporting analyses (thermohydraulic, structural, chemical), provide inputs to specialists, and critically review their results. Use hand calculations to sanity-check outputs and steer the design.

• Define supplier work packages, evaluate proposals, and manage the technical dialogue with suppliers and partners from concept through qualification.

• Ensure system requirements are traceable to plant-level and safety objectives, and that the system integrates correctly with neighbouring systems and disciplines.

• Contribute to system-level documentation, chair or participate in design reviews, and maintain the plant technical baseline for your systems.

• Support commissioning and testing activities as the plant progresses toward operation.

Who you'll get to work with

The Fluid System Engineer sits in the Fluid Systems Engineering Team within Blykalla, and reports to the Manager of Fluid Systems Engineering. You will collaborate daily with the other system engineers in the team, and interface closely with the Mechanical, Nuclear and Safety, Test and Validation, Quality, Material, Layout and Piping, and Electrical and I&C teams, as well as with external suppliers and research partners. We are a diverse team that is passionate about our work and Blykalla.

• More than 3 years of professional experience as a system, process, or fluid engineer on complex power, process, or industrial plants.

• Degree in mechanical, energy, chemical, nuclear, or a closely related engineering discipline.

• Solid working knowledge of applied thermodynamics, thermohydraulics, and heat and mass transfer.

• Working understanding of P&IDs, PFDs, piping and instrumentation conventions, and how a fluid system connects with layout, electrical, and I&C scope.

• Comfort writing clear technical specifications, reviewing supplier deliverables critically, and managing a multi-vendor technical dialogue.

• Familiarity with applicable industrial codes and standards (ASME, PED, or equivalent).

• Familiarity with CAD tools and engineering software; comfort scripting in Python or MATLAB is a plus.

• Fluent in English, spoken and written.

• Fluency in Swedish is a plus.

Meritorious skills:

• Nuclear industry experience, ideally in reactor system design or in nuclear auxiliary systems.

• Familiarity with heavy liquid metal or sodium technology.

• Experience with fluid systems for gas conditioning, chemistry control, or purification.

• Prior involvement in supplier or partner codevelopment of complex equipment.

• Experience with plant engineering tools (AVEVA, Hexagon, AutoPlant, Kadmatic, or equivalent) and PLM systems.

• Experience contributing to a nuclear licensing submittal.
