Job summary

Nouryon is seeking an Environmental Liability Project Manager to oversee environmental investigations and remediation across Europe, with focus on soil and groundwater contamination and regulatory compliance. The role can be based in Sweden (Gothenburg) or the Netherlands (Amsterdam).

You will manage sites, costs, consultants, and stakeholder relations, and contribute to remediation strategies and ELM process improvements. Travel up to 20% is expected.

Qualifications

• Academic degree in science or engineering as stated.
• Extensive experience in process, pharma, mining or oil industries.
• Proven project management experience on complex environmental matters.
• Experience across multiple countries and regulatory engagement.
• Fluent in English and Swedish or Dutch; driver’s license

Responsibilities

• Manage impaired sites and environmental liabilities across Nouryon’s European portfolio, ensuring compliance and cost control.
• Monitor and control investigation and remediation costs, including invoice approval and liability provisioning.
• Manage consultants and contractors, including scope, performance, cost control, and deliverables review.
• Maintain relationships with Nouryon sites, regulatory authorities and key stakeholders.
• Support development of remediation strategies with safety, budgeting, and cross-functional coordination.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of ELM procedures and guidelines.
• Support M&A due diligence as needed.
• Travel for site visits and stakeholder engagement (up to 20%).

This role is Environmental Liability Project Manager - Europe, managing environmental investigations and remediation projects across Europe with focus on soil and groundwater contamination, regulatory compliance, and responsible handling of environmental liabilities.

The position is part of the Nouryon Environmental Liability Management (ELM) team within corporate legal. The role can be based in Sweden (Gothenburg) or the Netherlands (Amsterdam).

Responsibilities

• Manage impaired sites and environmental liabilities across Nouryon’s European portfolio, ensuring compliance, cost control, and protection of company reputation.
• Monitor and control investigation and remediation costs, including invoice approval and environmental liability provisioning.
• Manage consultants and contractors, including scope definition, performance follow-up, cost control, and review of deliverables.
• Maintain relationships with Nouryon sites, regulatory authorities and key stakeholders.
• Support development of remediation strategies, including safety, budgeting, coordination with functions (Legal/Finance/HSE), and stakeholder engagement.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of ELM procedures and guidelines.
• Support M&A activities through environmental due diligence as needed.
• Travel for site visits and stakeholder engagement (primarily Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and France). Travel up to 20% in peak periods.

Qualifications

• Academic degree in science or engineering (e.g., MSc, master’s degree or equivalent in geology, chemistry, environmental science or similar).
• Extensive relevant experience from process, pharma, mining or oil industry and/or global technical consulting.
• Project management experience of complex environmental matters from technical, financial and legal perspectives.
• Experience working across multiple countries (technical and cultural contexts).
• Experience engaging with regulatory authorities in more than one European jurisdiction.
• Fluent in English and either Swedish or Dutch.
• Driver’s license.
