Job summary

Alfa Laval in Sweden seeks a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead electrical design and testing of control cabinets for our Smart Separation Systems. You will represent the electrical discipline across projects, delivering safe, compliant, and cost-effective automation solutions.

Based in Flemingsberg, you will develop Eplan drawings, perform SISTEMA safety calculations, conduct EMC analyses, and mentor junior engineers while collaborating with R&D and production teams.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in electrical design for industrial automation cabinets.
  • Advanced proficiency in Eplan.
  • Strong knowledge of SISTEMA for safety calculations.
  • Solid EMC principles knowledge and testing experience.
  • Experience with heat calculations and thermal management.
  • Familiarity with EN60204 and UL508a regulations.
  • Excellent English communication and mentoring abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, specification, and documentation of electrical systems.
  • Develop and maintain Eplan drawings per EN60204, UL508a.
  • Perform safety calculations with SISTEMA and document results.
  • Address EMC design and mitigation from early design phase.
  • Conduct heat calculations and validate thermal management.
  • Support start-up, commissioning, and on-site troubleshooting.
  • Mentor junior engineers and lead design reviews.

About the Role

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for the electrical design and testing of advanced control cabinets for our Smart Separation Systems. You will represent and lead the electrical discipline in multiple projects, ensuring high‑quality, compliant, and innovative solutions. Your expertise in Eplan, SISTEMA, EMC, and heat calculations will be crucial in delivering safe, reliable, and cost‑efficient automation solutions. Department is in R&D, BU HSS, Smart Separation Systems and it reports to Manager Automation Solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, specification, and documentation of complete electrical systems, including control, starter, and HMI panels, cabling, and technical documentation.
  • Develop and maintain Eplan electrical drawings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with EN60204, UL508a, and Alfa Laval standards.
  • Perform safety calculations using SISTEMA, ensuring our systems meet the highest functional safety standards.
  • You will analyze and document safety functions, evaluate risk reduction measures, and support the creation of hardware validation plans.
  • Conduct EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) analysis and design, ensuring our products meet regulatory requirements and operate reliably in industrial environments.
  • You will address EMC challenges from the early design phase through component selection, best practice and measuring.
  • Perform heat calculations for electrical cabinets, ensuring optimal thermal management and component longevity.
  • You will select appropriate cooling solutions and validate designs through simulation and testing.
  • Support start‑up, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities, both remotely and on‑site.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced engineers, conduct design reviews, and act as design lead in new product development projects.
  • Stay up to date with the latest technologies and tools, driving continuous improvement in our hardware design processes.
Your Profile
  • Academic degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in electrical design for industrial automation cabinets.
  • Advanced proficiency in Eplan.
  • Strong knowledge of SISTEMA for safety calculations and functional safety standards.
  • Solid understanding of EMC principles and practical experience with EMC testing and mitigation.
  • Experience with heat calculations and thermal management in electrical cabinet design.
  • Good understanding of electrical regulations (EN60204, UL508a).
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Proven leadership and mentoring abilities.
