The Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Gothenburg invites applications for Teaching Assistants on an intermittent hourly basis from November 2026 to April 2027. Qualifications

  • Must be a student within the Department of Earth Sciences.
  • GV1410 or GE0400 completed; a bachelor’s in geography/geosciences is advantageous; current master’s Earth Science students with GV1410/GE0400 equivalent are welcome.
  • For teaching tasks, good knowledge of Swedish (C1) and English, plus good computer skills. Supervision experience is a merit.

  • Prepare materials and organize laboratory sessions in consult with the course coordinator, in department or field settings.
  • Possibly present activities and supervise students; may grade labs and undergraduate assignments.
  • Participate in research as support to researchers where appropriate.
  • Engage with prospective students as needed (shadowing, ambassador activities, etc.).
  • Contribute photos/films to digital channels to showcase studying geosciences.
  • Reorganize premises, relocate and take inventory as required.

Duties

The Department of Earth Sciences is seeking Teaching Assistants for intermittent employment (hourly employment as needed) from November 2026 through April 2027.

The work involves assisting with laboratory sections of courses in geography, geology and earth sciences. The tasks include, among other things, preparing, in consultation with the course coordinator, laboratory sessions including materials, which can take place both at the department and in the field. In the implementation of laboratory work, it can include presenting the activity and supervising students. Tasks may include grading students' labs and other undergraduate assignments. Some participation in research as support to various researchers may also occur.

As a teaching assistant, there may be tasks involving contact with prospective students (undergraduate or master's level). For example, you may be assigned have a possible student "shadow you for a class", participate as a student ambassador when a school class comes to visit or other forms of collaboration, as well as contribute with photos/films to our digital channels where you give an insight into what studying geosciences can look like.

The tasks may also include reorganization of the premises, relocation and inventory.

Qualifications

We are looking for students within our own Department of Earth Sciences.

Applicants must have completed the course GV1410 or GE0400. Additional requirements may apply depending on the work tasks. A completed bachelor's programme in geography or geosciences is an advantage. Alternatively, current master's Earth Science program students with an equivalent to GV1410 or GE0400 are also welcome to apply.

For teaching tasks, the following is desired: good knowledge of Swedish at level C1 and English and good computer skills. You can easily familiarise yourself with specific problems and come up with an alternative solution that you can communicate to students. Previous experience in supervision is a merit.

Employment

The position is an intermittent position, which means varying hours as needed during the period November 2026 through April 2027. Placement in the Department of Earth Sciences. Your official job title at the university will be assistant.
