Sandvik in Stockholm invites you to join our R&D team as a materials modeling and simulation expert. You will develop and validate numerical models, analyze material behavior, and contribute to digitalization and data-driven approaches in a research-driven environment.

Based on-site in Västberga, you will collaborate with colleagues across R&D, production and quality, bringing theory to real-world applications through FEM, DFT and related methods, using Python, SQL or MATLAB.

Qualifications

  • MSc or PhD in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Applied Mathematics or similar.
  • Strong expertise in numerical modeling and simulation (FEM/DFT) and related methods.
  • Experience with data handling, statistics and large datasets.
  • Proficient programming in Python, SQL, MATLAB or similar.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, validate and apply advanced numerical models to support R&D decision‑making.
  • Build and manage data structures for simulation parameters, outputs and metadata.
  • Apply methods such as DFT, FEM and statistical modeling to analyze material behavior and processes.

Profile & Qualifications

You have a strong background within materials modeling and simulation and enjoy connecting theory with real‑world applications. With a structured and analytical mindset, you’re comfortable working with complex data and advanced numerical methods.

  • MSc or PhD in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Applied Mathematics or similar.
  • Strong expertise in numerical modeling and simulation, such as FEM, DFT or related methods.
  • Experience in statistical analysis, data management and handling large datasets.
  • Programming skills in tools such as Python, SQL, MATLAB or similar environments.
  • Proven ability to connect models with experimental data and physical understanding.
