Job description
This position is within one of TRATON’s companies.
Role Summary

As a Development Engineer, you will be responsible for model development of Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) and Software-in-the-Loop (SiL) environments for powertrain systems. You will work primarily with Simulink, Simscape, and MATLAB to develop, maintain, and enhance simulation models that enable verification and validation of control systems.

We are not looking for testers or test case developers — our focus is on building robust, high-fidelity test environment models, and our testers are our internal customers.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop, validate, and maintain simulation models for HiL and SiL environments using Simulink, Simscape, and MATLAB.
  • Design and integrate dynamic models of powertrain components (ICE, GMS, EMU, BMS, etc.) to support system verification and development.
  • Collaborate closely with function developers, testers, and system engineers to ensure model accuracy, stability, and usability.
  • Improve model performance, numerical robustness, and fidelity to represent real system behavior.
  • Contribute to model architecture standardization, version control, and continuous integration practices.
  • Support troubleshooting and model‑related issue resolution in collaboration with HiL and SiL testing teams.
  • Provide clear technical documentation for developed models and interfaces.
Who You Are

You are a driven and analytical engineer who enjoys solving complex modeling challenges and takes ownership of your deliveries. You are collaborative, structured, and have a strong interest in system simulation and control.

You likely have:

  • A degree in Engineering, Applied Physics, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Experience in model‑based development using Simulink, Simscape, and MATLAB.
  • Knowledge of powertrain systems such as ICE, transmissions, electric machines, or batteries.
  • Experience in HiL and/or SiL environments, including interfacing models with dSPACE, ETAS, or equivalent platforms.
  • An understanding of control systems and real‑time simulation constraints.
  • A proactive and communicative mindset, with a desire to continuously improve tools and workflows.

Valuable but not required:

  • Experience with automation, scripting, or toolchain integration (Python, Git, etc.).
  • Familiarity with electrified powertrains and vehicle simulation.
  • Experience with model optimization and parameterization from measurement data.

If you don’t check every box but believe you can grow into the role, we still encourage you to apply — the right mindset and potential matter most.

This Is Us
