Job description

Description

We are seeking a Data Engineer with strong knowledge of data handling processes for safety-critical systems. This role focuses on building and maintaining robust, traceable, and compliant data infrastructure that supports the development and validation of safety-relevant vehicle functions. The candidate must understand the rigor required when data quality, traceability, and integrity directly affect functional safety outcomes (e.g., ISO 26262 context).

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 3+ years of data engineering experience, with direct or adjacent exposure to safety-critical or highly regulated environments (automotive, aerospace, medical devices, industrial control systems).
  • Working knowledge of functional safety concepts (ISO 26262 or equivalent standards) as they relate to data handling and traceability — deep functional safety engineering expertise not required, but familiarity with the “why” behind rigorous data practices is essential.
  • Strong Python skills and hands‑on GitHub experience (branching, PR review, CI pipelines) — standard data engineering toolset at the client.
  • Experience with data validation, lineage tracking, and reproducibility practices.
  • Familiarity with automotive test/validation data formats and processes is a strong plus.
Personal Attributes (Critical for This Role)
  • High drive and cross‑functional initiative — this role requires proactively engaging with multiple departments (functional safety, systems engineering, ADAS, test/validation) to understand data provenance and requirements, often without fully pre‑defined specifications.
  • Meticulous, detail‑oriented mindset given the safety implications of data errors.
  • Strong stakeholder communication skills; able to explain data engineering decisions to safety and systems engineers.
  • Comfortable working within structured, process‑driven environments while still being able to problem‑solve independently.
Job responsibilities
  • Design and maintain data pipelines that meet the traceability, auditability, and integrity requirements typical of safety-critical automotive systems.
  • Implement data governance practices aligned with functional safety processes (e.g., data lineage, version control, change tracking, validation gates).
  • Manage structured and unstructured data (test logs, requirement traces, verification/validation evidence) supporting safety case documentation.
  • Build and maintain Python-based data engineering tools, using GitHub for source control, code review, and CI/CD workflows consistent with client‑standard practices.
  • Partner closely with functional safety engineers, systems engineers, and test teams to ensure data pipelines support ISO 26262 / safety validation workflows.
  • Ensure data used in safety-relevant analyses is complete, correctly versioned, and reproducible.
  • Support audits and reviews requiring demonstrable data handling compliance.
