Job summary

Karolinska Institutet in Solna invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Structural Virology. You will investigate viral entry, replication and immune recognition using cryo-EM, structural biology and biophysical methods, contributing to vaccine and antiviral research.

We seek a PhD in structural biology or related field with hands-on cryo-EM and protein expression experience, plus proficiency with RELION, cryoSPARC, and model-building tools.

Qualifications

• PhD in structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology or related field.
• Documented cryo-EM experience and a track record applying structural approaches to biological questions.
• Hands-on recombinant protein expression and purification; optimization of challenging protein complexes.
• Experience with cryo-EM sample prep, grid optimization and data collection.
• Proficiency with cryo-EM software (RELION, cryoSPARC) and model-building tools (Coot, Phenix, ChimeraX).
• Strong publication record and ability to contribute to project design and data interpretation.

Responsibilities

• Characterize viral and host proteins by cryo-EM and structural approaches.
• Prepare grids, collect data, and perform image processing and 3D reconstruction.
• Build atomic models and interpret structural data in virology and immunology contexts.
• Integrate structural findings with experimental data and publications.
• Collaborate across a multidisciplinary team and contribute to study planning and manuscript writing.
