Job summary

Alstom in Västerås is seeking a Brake Mechanical / Pneumatical Engineer. You will design brake equipment, integrate components, and contribute to international projects across countries, from concept to production support.

We value an MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Catia experience, and fluent English; Swedish is a plus. The role involves collaboration, testing travel, and delivering reliable brake solutions for trains.

Qualifications

• MSc in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Knowledge in material properties and welded designs.
• Experience in 3D CAD, preferably Catia.
• Experience in mechanical integration and pneumatic schemes (advantage).
• Knowledge of electrical schematics and harness (advantage).
• Railway/automotive industry experience (advantage).
• Fluent in English; Swedish is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical design of brake equipment including sheet metal, riveted assemblies and welded design.
• Integrate components to achieve space-efficient designs with respect to FEA and brake performance.
• Provide mechanical and electrical interface to internal and external equipment.
• Cable and pipe routing in 3D and BOM creation.
• Specify pneumatic components and follow up with suppliers; define constraints for brake control electronics.
• Lead design reviews and participate in investigations; support production and industrialization.

Your future role

Get on-board and apply your expertise in a new cutting-edge field. You’ll report to Erik Simonson, Brakes Engineering Manager, and work alongside collaborative team mates.

Are you interested to work in an international company that deliver Brake system equipment to trains throughout the world? Your contribution in this role will be mechanical design and integration of Brake equipment placed in a variety of different train applications. Our belief is also that you in addition to mechanical background also either have interest in, or experience from, pneumatical engineering.

You will be a part of international projects with team members from different countries and have a global network. You will work closely in teams across the business in both order- and development projects as well as being part of technical investigations. You will be involved in the whole development process from bid work and conceptual design, detailed design and production support in later stages of the product life cycle.

We’ll look to you to:

• Perform mechanical design of Brake equipment including sheet metal, riveted assemblies and welded design.
• Integration of components within our products to achieve the most space efficient design and with respect to FEA and brake performance.
• Mechanical- and electrical interface to internal and external equipment
• Cable and pipe routing in 3D
• Calculate the constraints related to the pneumatic components of the brake system to fulfil all customer and normative requirements
• Specify or select the pneumatic components of the brake system and follow-up technical aspects with suppliers
• Define the constraints related to pneumatic components to be taken into account by the brake control electronics (reaction time, etc.)
• Participate in or lead design reviews
• Technical investigation and analyses
• Perform 2D/3D design (Digital Mock Up), Bill of Material and technical and project specific documentation related to mechanical design
• Support industrialization during prototype and pre-series build
• Involved in standardization to gain the most cost efficient solutions and to reduce the development time in projects.
• Handling and understanding of internal and external requirement
• Handle change request and doing updates on already existing products
• Contribute to the validation of the brake system
• Support installation and testing, including travel as required.
