Job summary

Alstom Transport AB in Västerås, Sweden is seeking a Traction System Engineer to define the architecture and functionalities of traction drives or auxiliary converter systems and to lead engineering studies to achieve performance in line with technical requirements.

You will collect externals and internals requirements, define system architecture, and ensure consistency across specifications while supporting design reviews and validation planning.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Analytical, structured and methodical approach.
  • Experience in electrical dimensioning of power electronic systems.
  • Strong collaboration and communication with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Fluent English; Swedish is considered an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Collect external (customer, standards) and internal (rolling stock) requirements, and allocate them to the technical teams.
  • Define the architecture and functionalities of the traction drive or auxiliary converter system, taking inputs from external and internal requirements.
  • Ensure consistency and compatibility between all traction or auxiliary function specifications by verifying every functional requirement specification and every component specification and by participating in design reviews.
  • Define together with the validation team the traction or auxiliary validation strategy.
  • Define and participate in combined system type tests and the commissioning of the train.
  • Participate in technical meetings with customers to provide support to the Sub-System Manager and/or Project Engineering Managers.
  • Analyze technical issues and propose solutions during the commissioning and reliability growth phase.
  • Provide Return of Experience (RoE) to be implemented in Reference Solutions and contribute to the RoE committee and documentation updates.

  • Analytical, structured, and methodical approach, with the ability to assess complex systems at both architectural and detailed technical levels.
  • Strong experience in the electrical dimensioning of power electronic systems, ideally with technical leadership, expert judgment, and adherence to industry standards.
  • Strong collaboration skills and high standard of professional communication, enabling effective interaction with cross‑functional stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in Swedish is considered an advantage.
