Assistant Professor in Cell and Molecular Biology

Karolinska Institutet (KI) invites early‑career researchers to apply for up to 21 assistant professor positions across various subject areas. The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB) seeks scientists who demonstrate high‑quality science, research independence, and potential for academic leadership.

Your mission

As an assistant professor at CMB you will build and lead your own research team with academic freedom. You will recruit and supervise group members (researchers and students), design independent research projects, publish in peer‑reviewed journals, present at international meetings, secure external funding for group expansion, and teach at various levels. You are expected to collaborate locally, nationally, and internationally, and to contribute to departmental activities.

Eligibility requirements

• A PhD (or equivalent degree) in a relevant subject area.
• At least one peer‑reviewed original research publication as first or last author, with former PhD supervisor not a co‑author.
• PhD awarded no more than seven years prior to application deadline, unless special circumstances (e.g., parental leave, long‑term illness, union leadership, mandatory service) are documented.

• International research experience and documented experience beyond KI.
• Proven potential to initiate and develop an independent research line.
