Position Overview

Karolinska Institutet (KI), one of the world’s foremost medical universities, is launching a major recruitment initiative in 2026. KI is looking for up to 21 outstanding early-career researchers to join us as Assistant Professors across a wide range of subject areas.

KI offers the opportunity to transition from a time‑limited position to permanent employment as a Senior Lecturer. Your mission

As an Assistant Professor you will establish and lead a dynamic research group in pharmacology with a focus on Novel Therapies. Your responsibilities include developing a globally competitive research programme, securing funding for a self‑sustaining group, teaching and supervising PhD students, and mentoring early‑career researchers. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, promote inclusive teamwork, and communicate research findings effectively.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible you must have:

• A PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area
• At least two peer‑reviewed original scientific publications as first or last author, in addition to the doctoral thesis
• Not more than seven years between the conferral of your PhD and the application deadline (or provide proof of deductible time for parental leave, long‑term illness, trade union service or defence service)
• Strong scientific quality, originality, and feasibility of your research plan within the relevant subject area
• Documented experience in research environments outside KI, especially international experience
• Demonstrated ability for scientific collaboration and publishing in internationally leading journals, preferably as first author
• Demonstrated ability to secure substantial external funding as principal investigator

All criteria will be assessed as part of the overall evaluation; they are not individual requirements.
