Job Description Summary

The Wound Care Nurse 1 works across all JHAH Nursing organizations including Dhahran, Al Hasa, Udhailiyah, Ras Tanura, and Abqaiq. Provides a wide range of direct, quality, and evidence-based professional nursing care to patients, guided by organizational and departmental policies and procedures, as well as an approved electronic competency evaluation system used in JHAH to improve well-being.

  1. Develop and monitor standards of care; assist in the formulation and evaluation of procedures, protocols, and policies to maintain best practices.
  2. Engage in research, measurement of quality outcomes, and safety projects as appropriate.
  3. Pursue high staff engagement and obtain high patient experience.
  4. Achieve and sustain high quality of care and patient safety.
  5. Support the empowerment of nurses through the enculturation of JHAH Nursing Professional Practice Model.
  6. Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and reassess care for patients with abdominal stomas, acute or chronic wounds (e.g., draining wounds, fistulae, pressure ulcers, and/or continence concerns).
  7. Provide appropriate debridement of devitalized tissue (e.g., conservative sharp debridement, silver nitrate cauterization of non-proliferative wound edges, hypergranulation tissue, or to control minor bleeding).
  8. Collaborate, coordinate, and communicate care with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare team members to implement the plan of care and meet rehabilitation needs for patients with Wound Ostomy Care (WOC) needs.
  9. Coordinate discharge plans, including follow-up visits with the WOC nurse as necessary, and make referrals for home health services if needed.
  10. Evaluate individual patient and family outcomes in response to the plan of care and the WOC nurse’s clinical interventions.
  11. Provide outpatient services, including home healthcare patients.
  12. Provide education to patients and significant others regarding stoma care, peristomal skin care, wound management, care of percutaneous tubes, draining wounds/fistulae management, and reporting any concerns to the physician.
  13. Offer learning opportunities to update healthcare professionals, including new staff, about current guidelines and standards of care for patients with WOC needs.
  14. Collaborate with supply chain to evaluate products and assess new modalities available in the market.

Minimum Education Required: Bachelor Degree in Nursing.

Professional Certifications Required: International certification in Wound Care Management.

Years of Experience: Minimum 6 years of Nursing Experience, including at least 2 years in an acute care setting as a Wound Care Nurse Specialist.
