Job Purpose / Objective
Provides comprehensive wound care to patients using evidence-based practice. Responsible for assessment, observation, and provision of safe patient care, along with evaluating treatment outcomes. Educates patients, families, and staff on wound management, pressure ulcer prevention, support surfaces, dressing choices, and other therapies. Acts as a resource for physicians, wound team, and clinical staff. Participates in the organization’s performance improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities
- Assess the learning needs of nursing staff and collaborate with the Head Nurse of Nursing Education to improve knowledge on managing patients at risk of or with existing ulcers.
- Perform wound assessments, reassessments, and management for all patient groups, including neonates, pediatrics, geriatrics, and the general population, according to policy.
- Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles and provide age-appropriate care.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of wound assessment and staging systems.
- Establish and update standards of care, competencies, policies, and procedures related to wound care, including documentation tools.
- Provide training and support on best practices in wound care.
- Assist in identifying and implementing practice changes based on available wound care materials, in line with HMG standards and guidelines.
- Monitor hospital-acquired pressure injury rates and lead quarterly Pressure Ulcer Prevalence Surveys.
- Consult with other healthcare professionals/departments for interdisciplinary patient care.
- Revise care plans based on patient responses and evaluate overall effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with wound care policies.
- Participate in evaluating new products, equipment, and technologies to enhance wound care.
- Engage in educational programs, in-services, and workshops to enhance professional skills.
- Educate patients, families, and staff on wound management, pressure ulcer prevention, support surfaces, dressing choices, and therapies.
- Provide basic wound care training and orientation to newly hired nursing staff.
- Report unsafe practices, misconduct, or incapacity through appropriate channels.
- Offer constructive feedback to healthcare team members timely.
- Develop and evaluate teaching plans based on staff learning needs.
- Facilitate the implementation of new policies and educational programs.
- Uphold professional and ethical standards, including patient confidentiality.
- Assist in identifying and developing patient and family education materials.
- Provide education tailored to patient and family needs.
- Participate in person-centered care initiatives.
- Enhance patient experience with compassion, respect, and dignity.
- Perform other duties within your knowledge, skills, and abilities as assigned.
- Education / Professional Qualification
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Nursing or Health Education.
- Experience
Minimum of 5 years in the same specialty.
- Licensing / Certification
Valid registration with the Saudi Council.
