Job Summary:
The Workshop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the metallurgical workshop, ensuring the efficient and safe execution of various metal testing, sample preparation, and fabrication activities. This role involves coordinating the workshop team, maintaining equipment, and supporting the broader metallurgy lab operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Machine the samples for testing in metallurgical laboratory
- Manage the workflow and priorities of the workshop technicians and operators to ensure timely completion of tasks
- Oversee the safe operation and maintenance of metallurgical testing equipment, machinery, and tools
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures for workshop activities, including sample preparation, metal fabrication, and equipment usage
- Receive samples and establish and follow booking system for long term traceability
- Establish samples traceability and retention mechanism
- Provide technical guidance and hands-on support to the workshop team on the application of metallurgical testing methods and equipment
- Monitor inventory levels of workshop consumables and coordinate the procurement of necessary materials, tools, and spare parts
- Collaborate with the Metallurgy Lab Supervisor and Quality Assurance team to ensure alignment with testing protocols, quality standards, and safety requirements
- Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reporting related to all workshop activities, including equipment maintenance and calibration
- Participate in the recruitment, training, and development of the workshop personnel
Qualifications:
- Diploma or trade certification in Metalworking, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline
- Minimum 5-7 years of hands-on experience in a metallurgical workshop or similar industrial environment
- Proven expertise in the operation and maintenance of various workshop equipment, such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and welding machines
- Strong understanding of metallurgical testing methods, sample preparation techniques, and material properties
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and test procedures
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to address equipment issues and process challenges
- Effective communication and leadership skills to coordinate the workshop team and liaise with other lab personnel
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and best practices for workshop operations
- Familiarity with inventory management and procurement processes for workshop consumables and equipment
