1. Purpose:
The Welder Technician is responsible for supporting the mechanical section of the maintenance department by performing welding and mechanical tasks in the MHF and VSK plants as well as in the maintenance workshop. The role ensures continuous plant operation, equipment reliability, and safe fabrication/repair works.
2. Justifications:
- To ensure availability of a welder 24/7 for maintenance welding tasks.
- To provide daily support to the mechanical section for plant activities.
3. Scope of Work & Responsibilities:
- Perform skilled welding work in fabrication and repair of metal equipment.
- Use oxy-acetylene and electrical equipment for fabricating, heating, welding, cutting, and brazing ferrous and non-ferrous metals as per standard trade practices.
- Lay out, fit, and fabricate structural and mechanical components such as machinery frames, pressure vessels, and pipelines.
- Read, interpret, and execute welding assignments from blueprints, sketches, and oral instructions.
- Weld shafts, cams, spindles, hubs, and bushings on automobiles, trucks, trailers, pumps, booster pumps, etc.
- Perform mechanical repairs on heavy-duty automotive equipment.
- Carry out welding tasks on wastewater treatment plants to ensure watertight integrity.
- Create and maintain updates of written work records.
- Perform aluminum welding tasks.
- Straighten and rebuild heavy welded equipment.
- Work with trucks, water tanks, steel structures, and brass fittings.
- Fabricate replacement parts as per engineering instructions.
- Operate power saws, shears, and other metal-cutting tools to cut parts and scrap metals as required.
4. General Requirements:
- Certified Welder, Category 6G.
- Minimum 3 years of welding experience.
- Knowledge and hands-on skills in Oxy-Acetylene cutting.
5. Skills & Competencies:
- Strong technical skills in welding and fabrication.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Knowledge of safety practices in welding and fabrication activities.
- Flexibility to support plant shutdowns and emergency maintenance.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
