JOB SUMMARY


Responds to production calls that require welding works of mill equipment/parts & rolls in order to put the mill back to normal operation. Participates in the preparation of in-house fabricated spares to minimize mill stoppages and delays. Supports maintenance objectives of optimum equipment reliability, availability, and safety at minimum cost through excellent workmanship, reduction of delays, and efficient use of spare parts. Supports Production goals to meet tonnage targets & produce excellent quality bars.


Primary Responsibilities:
  • Interprets blueprint drawings and makes layout on the material to be fabricated using steel rule, combination square or compass, punch markers & others.
  • Repairs broken equipment parts, leaking tanks, coolers, punctured pipes, and fittings by electric arc welding using mild steel, cast-iron, stainless-steel welding electrodes, or by brazing using aluminum and copper rods.
  • Builds up worn out rollers, guides, troughs, aprons, brake slide, pump casing, and other parts using mild steel, stainless steel welding electrodes, and eutectic wire rod.
  • Sets up machinery for different welding jobs as required using electric arc welding and oxy-acetylene welding.
  • Weld spikes on roll grooves of roughing and intermediate stands as requested by production.
  • Fabricates spare troughs, guides, brackets, steel cabinets, equipment housing, covers, racks, heat shields, inspection platforms, lance pipes of burners, and various machine, mill, and reheating furnace components.
  • Assists mechanical fitter, WTP Operator, or Utility Specialist in piping installation and repair that requires welding of flange and butt-welding pipe joints.
  • Undertakes other welding and fabrication projects as required, applying a range of technologies (arc & gas) to steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, and alloys.
  • Does gouging using arc-air and gas cutting using plasma cutter.
  • Keeps equipment and work area clean and orderly.
  • Always observes safety standards & requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as directed by Shift In charge & Sr. Mech Fitter.
Job Qualification:
  • Minimum requirement is a Welding course with graduation in college from the country of origin.
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in electric arc welding, oxy-acetylene welding, plasma cutting, TIG welding, and gas cutting and fabrication works.
